Fat Separator: New To Me

Longer back story, short story is next door neighbor cooked his first pork butt. Asks me if I have a fat separator he can borrow. Answered no as did not even know what that is.
I looked them up, pretty sure one is needed as this looks to be a better way. Currently pour drippings of interest in a measuring cup and ladel out the bad stuff. Seems to be 2 varieties, tee-pot style and bottom plunger type. Tee-pot looks more functional and less messy. For those using these, are they worthwhile and any recommendations?

I have both styles. The bottom drop style I have holds more juice. I like it even better than the spout style I’ve had for years. They’re cheap.dbCooper said:Longer back story, short story is next door neighbor cooked his first pork butt. Asks me if I have a fat separator he can borrow. A fat separator is a game changer. It’s a great tool to have around.Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...

You guys are the absolute worst. I need to build a pole barn for all my cooking accoutrements.
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

I've got an Oxo teapot style. It works ok. Unless I'm in a hurry tho I'll just pour the liquid in a container and put it in the fridge for a while. Once the fat has hardened it is easy to just lift or spoon out the fat "biscuit".“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk

I have both. They both work fine and are cheap. If you have room for another kitchen gadget, it's nice to have. But like Heavy said, you can just chill.

I think I have the same one. Have probably used it less than a handful of times in the several years since I bought it. Way simpler to pour it in a deli container, and stick it in the fridge.HeavyG said:I've got an Oxo teapot style. It works ok. I use mine to reintroduce all the drippings from say brisket or pulled pork back into the mix minus the excess fat obviously. It contains a ton of flavor. It takes literally a few minutes for the fat to separate and then dump it for service. Nice and warm. Delicious.

Used my bottom style last night.

I am terrible, I don't separate. I let my gall bladder do that.

I thought that was what your wingman did when you go out with your buddies.
