i've seen a few pizza stones in Bed Bath, etc, but they look pretty thin and whimpy. from everyone's pix on here, the BGE pizza stone looks pretty thick, which is what i'm looking for.[p]i saw this website that sells "kiln shelves," which are essetntially pizza stones, for a very reasonable price. see here:
http://www.crloo.com/Products/Fusing___Glassworking_Supplies/Kiln_Shelves___Posts/kiln_shelves___posts.html [p]i have a large BGE, so i wanted the 16" round stone, but didn't know if the 5/8 inch thickness was thick enough. [p]so...how thick is the BGE stone? is 5/8 inch thick enough? is the 16" round the proper size for the large BGE, or should i get the 15" round?[p]thanks everybody!

KaiserSoze,[p] Get a 14" for the large. The 16" seems to want to toast gaskets. [p] My XL Pizza Stone is at least 5/8" inch thick. I bought a Bed, Bath and Beyond Stone and it cracked the first cook. I know that people have had ultra bad luck with the Pampered Chef's stones.[p] For what my opinion is worth spend the money and get the BGE stone that is for your large.
  • KaiserSoze,
There are a number of reports of toasted gaskets after using a 16" pizza stone a couple of times. You might want to try a 15" stone to be safer. I have a 15" stone I plan to use to see how it goes with the gasket. My gasket is usually already toast, so I've never worried/cared about using the 16" stone. I just replaced my gasket, so I can see how 15" does. If you don't care about the state of your gasket, then the 16" stone does fine.[p]TNW
