I really like your clean application and I really appreciate your reply to my PM about what Permatex you used! So I thank you again!
Your choice of the Permatex Grey blends beautifully. OTOH while the Permatex Ultra Copper I recommend using is gold/copper in color it provides a visual contrast to see/know if your application has been sufficient to permit the Permatex to penetrate the gasket to ensure years of bonding and keeping the gasket material tight. I'm not sure starting out gray in gray will provide the same result.

Last time I bought a rutland I put it on immediately and cracked my base a week later. next ones going on the lid.

I put the Rutland gasket on the lid for that very reason. There are way more tales of the base cracking vs. the lid. I think he is saying bases are more prone to cracking. If you install the gasket on the dome, you won't have to replace the gasket when you get a new base.alaskanassasin said:

Another pro for installing on the dome @caliking and @Eggcelsior would be sauces, grease, seasonings, etc will not get all over the gasket as you drag stuff in and out of the egg.

It's your call, but I'd rather have my gasket stationary and staying put rather than collecting debris to then be waved over my food. Besides being on the bottom then if it ever starts to deteriorate I will notice that far quicker than if it was on my dome since glancing at the underside of the dome is hard to do and out of sight out of mind. And lastly... I always tell people that it is not necessary to remove their dome, mess with their bands and run the risk of getting them out of sync. OTHERWISE gravity is going to be a real bear trying to apply their gasket upside down!
BUT if none of these pointers make sense to you then have at!

I don't think the concerns of the "nervous nellies" are necessarily illegitimate. Rutland gaskets are made from fibreglas and fibreglas fibers can be an irritant when worked into your skin/lungs/stomach. Just like asbestos, lead, DDT, carbon tet, etc. - a little bit never hurt anybody.Rutland has gone on public record stating that their gaskets are not intended to be used around food and have not been tested for safety in such usage. The Rutland Gasket is solid! Just installed one on the base 2 months or so ago, holy smokes my base is still intact. No cracks...LOLRetired Navy, LBGE

Ron, When I said high temp. cooks, I mean up too 500* for a pizza cook, nothing higher. Just installed the Rutland I got from you some years ago. My medium looks good again.
