    You are fine to leave it on unless you are doing a really high temp cook.  You can manually adjust the damper when the Smobot isn’t in use to control airflow.  When doing a high temp cook you don’t really need a top at all - just control with the bottom vent.

    However - what I do is use a Smokeware cap when not using the Smobot and then replace it with the daisy wheel when using the Smobot.  The Smobot stays attached to the daisy wheel always in my case.

    I remove the daisy wheel (with smobot attachment) after each cook because I have the ceramic top to snuff out the fire. I use smobot for majority of cooks, but if not using it I just go with no top and control temp from the bottom.
