Question regarding wings cooking raised direct

Hi all. My plan was raised direct for wings at 300. When I ran out of room I made a 2nd level and put the smaller pieces on top since they’re further away from the fire. One BGE recipe said cook 50 minutes then turn for about 10 more.
With the 2nd level, do you have any suggestions? Rotate at some point or just stick with plan “A” and maybe have to cook the top ones longer?
they’ve been on about 10 minutes. Thanks for any ideas.

Don't underestimate the heat radiating off the dome. It will be hotter up there when there is a tray of cooking wings sitting directly underneath and taking the brunt of the direct heat. There's a million ways to do wings and get good results so my advice is to experiment and figure out your preference. I generally go indirect, but especially if I had two levels worth.khristyjeff said:Thanks for your answers. @Mickey your burnt cook pictures always crack me up. The results from tonight: Fire ended up being about 325-350 raised direct. Some were a little overdone at 50 minutes plus 5 on 2nd side. The upper level wings cooked only slightly slower than those on the bottom tier. The confusing thing to me was how the tops of the wings were what browned rather than the bottoms that were exposed to direct heat.Stillwater, MN

I usually go raised, indirect at 300-325 for about 1.5 hours.

I like raised direct @400Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

@Mickey I’ve never done turkey wings, did you have to do anything special with them or can I just cook them like I would a chicken wing?XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2
