Pizza Stone question?

Horse Radish,
no magic. whatever you have, go ahead. for some reason though, i think there's a general consensus that the pampered chef one's all seem to crack. i don't know if that's the egg doing it (we seem to all go 500-600 or so for pizza), or if they break 'in general'.

stike,
Thanks for the info, Time to Commence firing it up.

Horse Radish,[p]There have been a number of people, myself included, that have had burnt gaskets that may be related to having a too large third party stone in the Egg. In other words, I had a 14" stone in my medium, and I toasted the gasket during the second use. I've since had an Egg 12", and haven't had any problems.[p]gdenby

Horse Radish,
put it in as the egg comes up to temp....
don't put it cold on a hot fire. not so much for thermal shock's sake, but because a cold mass like that will drag your set dome temp down unless you bring it up with the dome temp.

stike,
yep! been there, done that. crack.

Horse Radish,
I use a regular pizza stone from wally world and so far no problems. My setup is on a raised grate about one inch above the gasket. No platesetter and temp about 450.

Horse Radish,
Here's a link to my pizza hints and tips. Any reasonable stone will work. Pampered Chef stones crack. See the photo on my web page. [p]TNW

bbqbeth,
I leave my stone is outside and i always let it come up to temp with the egg. I'll check out spin's recipe. Suppose to snow around here but i think its time for a pizza.
-
Horse Radish,[p]I'll probably gp the Target or Wally route - but I did see Alton Brown use an inverted terra cotta pot base FWIW.[p]Geez - 2nd AB reference and he lives here in Marietta, GA
:-)[p]If there are any FoodTV folks out there you absolutely gotta goto tvgasm.com for their foodtv HILARIOUS writeups.
