New patio cook area build
Comments
-
Beautiful work. Do you think it's possible to build something like this on a travertine patio that is not on a concrete slab or footer, ie. prepared gravel and sand?
-
I don't Know. There's quit a bit of weight involved. I suppose it would depend on how compressed the base was. I think there might tend to be settling, expansion, etc. over time.
-
Thanks. Still researching. Don't want to pour a slab but I'm concerned about weight as well, especially on travertine so may have to.

Finally getting around to doing the finishing touches on the cook area. The latest being wasp/bee protection. Noticed some wasps flying in and out of the big green egg vent hole, so I came up with this to thwart them.A couple of rare earth magnets and stainless steel plates on either side and it just snaps on and off.

@Smolder the kitchen looks fabulous- please let us know how the wasp prevention works. They can be surprising! We have several outdoor plugs with a covers on them and we can be pretty confident that we will need to spray at least one a season. We open them with care!!!Johns Is, SC

looks great! I have a similar setup. you'll find yourself egging a lot more often now.
-
You're right about that. They are very tenacious critters. So far, they haven't figured a way in. I'll keep you posted. Hopefully won't be posting any wasp attack videos.booksw said:

Fulfilling my promise to post back r.e. the wasp/bug screen. After nearly a year, I'm happy to report that not one wasp has infiltrated the cook space. The rare earth magnets also worked very well through all the wind storms we had.

I called a local granite company out to bid the project.I have no idea what the difference is. I'm a security guy, that's why I call experts to install what I can't.

I am glad this thread was brought back. I missed it in 2018. What a gorgeous build!
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Thanks, Ozzie. Really appreciate the kind words. I really enjoyed doing it and have enjoyed using it even more. I still need to figure out a lighting system. That will get done this spring.

I see by you're name you are/were a railroader. My brother in law was with UP stationed out of Kansas City. Marysville was where he stayed all the time waiting for the return trip home.loco_engr said:very nice build
