Slow 'N Sear® Deluxe Kamado

Good day all,
Anyone have any thoughts on this piece of equipment? Seems to have a lot of upside and it's testing my loyalty.
Thanks!

  • Looks cool. I’ve always hated that BGE doesn’t offer SS hardware.

If I was going to do it all over again, I’d likely go with a Blaze.

have not seen that one have to check it out Thanks!
  • Nice thing about the Blaze - no cracking ceramic, rusting hardware or aging wood. The thing could probably be passed down to your grandkids. Would love to hear from someone who has owned one.

My only concern is the aluminum oxidizing on the Gulf Coast.
A bear by BBQ store had one in their store for sale for 2 years. Finally heavily discounted and sold it. But it was not to a regular customer and they have not heard back.
    Thank you,

If they made an XL version I'd sell my BGE today.

I mentioned to my wife tonight while we were sitting in the sac that they make a cast aluminum Kamado that would match my PK 360 and I got a dirty look.

That's actually pretty cool. Wish all these boutique builders offered larger sizes. 24" is minimum for me.

Nice options need XL size though. Why do some of you want to dump the BGE??

Biggest problem with ceramic kamados is they crack. They are covered under warranty but after multiple times it can become a pain especially if you are swapping bases on an XL.

  • I have the Goldens Cast Iron Cooker 20.5" and have used it alongside my LBGE.  You just can't beat the cast iron grates and firebox, it also comes with an awesome cart.  The ceramics can cook just as good, but not last just as long.  Note the size of 20.5, in the middle of 18 and 24.  That is the ideal size for fuel economy.  The 20.5" grates that can double or triple stack.  The ceramics top is short because they don't want the top to fall out.  The Goldens' is deeper top and no bands everything is made as a unit.  Perfect alignment for life which I have struggled to get with the BGE.  As far as the Blaze, it is awesome as well.  Very pricey though and my wife would not let us get it because the lid can slam and cut fingers as it is not a spring loaded hinge and there is no gasket.

I've been lurking on the forum forever and I had to join just for this...

    Thermal Conductivity:
    • Cast Aluminum: 167
    • Cast Iron: 52
    • Ceramic: 1.9
Also Blaze's claim that cast aluminum is not porous is nonsense...

That said OP the grill you posted looks to be better than BGE in just about every way I can see although I like the legs on the BGE plate setter that are noticeably absent from this.

    Aluminum melts at 1221F
    Charcoal burns at 2000F

I have personally burned through a cast aluminum firebox on a Weber Genesis and had my Egg dome temp over 1000F.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Curious if they offer stainless cooking grates. Can't stand the burnt grill marks that cast iron grates offer.

I don't understand, are you somehow offended by some basic facts? They even support the BGE... This is why I usually just lurk lol.

Edit: Missed your spam comment, my guess is the lock down has a few new people bored. That said it's pretty sad that you lumped me in there with the "spam", I'm guessing you don't know what thermal conductivity means because my post was purely to support ceramic over the aluminum and cast iron nonsense. Either way how is seeing alternatives on the market a bad thing? Give it a rest and quit policing the internet.

I thought it smelled fishy too. Smart vendor's usually have social media people that post on forums/reddit/facebook/amazon reviews (etc) disguised as real people to talk up their brand and downplay the competition. It's just another form of crafty product placement.

I’m offended because after lurking all this time, you felt  compelled to join the forum and spout off some thermal conductivity data and to refute another manufacturer’s claims. That’s total bvllshit and you know it.

    What part's bvllshit? Science?

Don't you come on here clouding our judgement with your facts and science! My incredible post count makes me more credible than physics!!!

I was supporting your side anyway aren't you pro Green Egg?

Ok. This post will be gone in a little while and you can climb back under that rock.

The OP joined in November 2011 and only posted about this last week. That’s a pretty patient and elaborate plan to spam us. OP didn’t even come out swinging for the S&S. They asked for opinions and even showed openness to a Blaze when I mentioned it.

Just a thought, but given the string of great members we’ve recently had walk away from this forum due to others jumping down their throats, perhaps it makes sense to ask questions first and shoot, if and when appropriate, later.

Not even saying I disagree with you; only that I think it always makes sense to seek first to understand.

Maybe OP can confirm, but I would hazard he or she simply copied the title from the manufacturer’s website (screenshot below). Exact same spelling and spacing.

Damn.... this used to be a friendlier place, as they say.

    , but I would

Fortunately I like a good debate so I'm not going anywhere but I still want to know how I got lumped in with the supposed spam for supporting BGE with nothing but hard facts... This guy's just looking for a fight.

I still don't even see anything wrong with the OP's post. I'd certainly like to see everything on the market. Like GrateEggspectations said he didn't join in 2011 for this master plan... We're all just bored on lockdown.
