Platesetter

My XL platesetter has developed a hairline crack, 60% across. It's out of warranty now, so what to replace it with. I know CGS is the default option, but for me in the UK that means shipping and duty costs to get it here. BGE have the Eggspander set up now, available directly here. Pros and cons of the setups (leaving aside the IP issues)?

I'll leave the IP stuff aside since my wife gifted me the Eggspander. I really like its simple design. I'm still using the XL platesetter with it, but if it were to break the Eggspander acts a cradle so you could substitute a round pizza stone/steel or whatever else you can find of various sizes.

Can also get two half stones for some additional options.

If you don't mind, what is the cost over there for the Eggspander set up you would need to replace the platesetter compared to the cost of the platesetter?
    Thank you,

Xl Platesetter £135. Eggspander £255 (no stones).

Does the existing platesetter fit with the Eggspander? So if I needed half stones, that's the diameter?

My XL platesetter has had a hairline crack across it for about five years. They are pretty tough. I’d just keep on cooking with it. If it finally breaks, just put a couple of rods underneath it to support it until you can get a replacement.

Yes, the Eggspander holds my platesetter (legs up) and gives you the added benefit of handles on each side, which makes lifting it in and out much easier. No more reaching in with welding gloves and pulling out a scorching hot piece of stone.

Since it's a nest of sorts, if your platesetter eventually cracks in half, you can still use it with the Eggspander the same way you'd use 2 half stones.

    Here is my take.
If you have been happy with the versatility of just using the platesetter, I would order just the XL Woo Ring from Ceramic Grill store at $45, about 36 pounds, and pay the shipping and taxes. It would not be that heavy and chances are slim that it would get damaged. Cut the legs off your existing platesetter and use it as the indirect stone until it breaks completely then replace with another pizza stone or 2 half stones. Mine has hairline cracks and holding strong for several years after cutting off the legs
You can always make a raise grate to go on top with a 18" grate.

Planning ahead really, plus I'd like 2 level cooking.

Multi level cooking is just an excuse to buy another egg.
