Table/Cabinetry for Large and MiniMax Eggs for Renovated Carport
Shocka1

Hi all,
We are having some renovations done on our carport to create an outdoor entertainment space which I'm looking forward to. Currently, I have a Large BGE that sits in a nest and a MiniMax (which I use more often) that just sits on the ground.
I'm looking to have an area in the newly renovated carport to house both the Large and Minimax Eggs. I originally was thinking a table, but now I think it makes more sense to have some custom cabinetry built to have the 2 Eggs, some countertop space and a section for a mini fridge / beverage fridge. (I won't have running water access up there. I'm likely going to need an outdoor hood to pull the smoke so it doesn't all get stuck up under the 3 walled enclosed carport.
Thus, I have some questions for the BGE peanut gallery:
1) Any other items I should consider from anyone regarding thoughts around best utilization of the space?
2) Any recommendations / resources re: the hood vent I'll need to go with? Looks like you can run those pretty expensive which I would obviously prefer to not have to do if not necessary.
3) What type of countertop would you guys recommend for the space up top?
4) Lastly, if you're aware of any sites or drawings that you've come across that look really good for a 2 Egg setup (with the Large and MiniMax next to each other since I'll need to have the hood go over those areas instead of having the Eggs on each end of the table/cabinetry, I'd love to review that or message with anyone directly.
Thanks in advance for your help!

A picture of the area in question would go a long way with recommendations.

@JethroBodeen - thanks that makes sense. Unfortunately, we haven't started the renovations so I don't have any pics to show yet, but I'm anticipating a table in the 6-8 ft length? Backdrop would likely be white siding on the inside of the carport area. Ceiling roofing would also likely be white painted wood.
-
From that description. How high is the ceiling above the eggs and how close will they be to the siding? There are numerous horror stories with these type scenarios involved.
-
@JethroBodeen - thanks for the input. Definitely want to avoid the horror stories. Was thinking if I needed some type of backsplash or something
to protect the area behind the egg or consider something different. Ceiling goes upward but I'm estimating to be somewhere around 8-9 feet from where eggs would be. Attempted a pic of the area that hasn't been renovated but you can see what I'm talking about. -
Looks like a block wall in the back. Thats the good news. That roof over the eggs scares me to death and I dont scare easily....There has been more than one story here of how an Egg caught the wall/roof structure on fire a long while after the cook was over. I would proceed with extreme caution in this area with Eggs. I would be looking outdoors somewhere.....
-
@JethroBodeen or others - Would you still have those concerns if there was a 42" outdoor hood installed above the egg to pull smoke and deflect some of the heat?
-
Ok, I added a proposed drawing to give some more helpful context after I gave this some more though and thought through Jethro's feedback.
Few fup questions:
1) I'm guessing I'll need to leave the whole middle section open for access to charcoal, etc. instead of trying to put something between the lid and the ash access?
2) If this cabinetry was made of wood, are the sides to the left and right of the Eggs going to be able to sustain the heat? Do I need to reinforce with any other material? Same question for what would be on the backside (behind the Eggs)? Behind the cabinetry is currently concrete block but we'll be renovating that would have siding placed over the concrete block.
3) Would a refrigerator be okay to be mounted in the space to the right of the MiniMax in the pic. Wasn't sure if that proximity to the heat from the grill would be an issue. I Am anticipating getting a true outdoor fridge made of stainless steel.
4) For the 42" hood vent, I'm doing that to help get rid of the smoke (and also should deflect heat from the ceiling which I'm guessing would be around 9' above the Eggs. I've read for outdoor use, I probably need more CFM pulling on those blowers to help with some wind, etc. Seemed like I really needed somewhere ~1100-1200 CFM. Feel free to chime in if anyone else has other thoughts. This would be installed under a carport that would be enclosed by 3 walls with this being on the back wall.
5) Any recommendations for the countertop surface on the left and right? I know granite is a common one. Also saw someone recommend soapstone.

Thanks @Tspud1. Good looking setup! That's very functionally similar to what I'd need with my 2 eggs. I'm trying to get the 2 Eggs together as close as possible b/c I'll need to have the hood vent over them (likely 42"). I prefer to have it be a wooden table to match decor of the rest of the furniture/look in the area, but I'm also recognizing the stainless steel would be a much more durable / fire proof safe option. One saving grace is that the contractor we're using is actually a fireman as well, so hopefully I can pick his brain on overall fire safety as well.

Have you looked on Naked Whiz site for tables or plans? Tere are really nice wood tables but my niche is the stainless onesShocka1 said:Thanks @Tspud1. Good looking setup! This is what I did. I would get it away from the house so it’s not a fire hazard.
