XXL was taller.  I don't remember the dims, but the 2XL looks more like an XL that they just streched out another 5 inches.

I think they changed the firebox too.......so it had the same firegrate as the XL.

The XXL had a traditional plate setter too, they switched to a metal frame with a stone on the 2XL.

@stlcharcoal or @HeavyG what the $ of the xxl vs the 2xl.  Last year like a numb nuts I passed on a 2xl with nest and ps for $1400.  Now I regret it as I could now lift the dome and just want it

I believe they lowered the price by $1000 when the 2XL came out.  All the accessories, nest, etc.  are more expensive of course.

As mentioned the base has some cut off. I would assume the firebox or ring got shorter too. The price went down 2K also. I have the 2XL, and while I wanted the XXL, I’m not sure it would have any impact on performance or abilities.

Is a metal frame with a stone a better way to go or is the traditional setup missed?

I heard the XXL was heavier but not sure if that means it was a different material or thicker?

Personally I like the metal frame and stones over the platesetter.

Metal frame with a pizza stone is the better way to go on any size bge.  Plate setter legs have always been a weak point.

Xxl is heavier because it was much taller.
