Cleaning the Cooking Grill

I'm not talking about the Egg but the cooking grill surface. I find this most difficult part of using the Egg. My wife doesn't like food cooked on a dirty grill so I soak and scrub after each cook. Curious to know if there are other ways to keep the grill shinny clean? Thanks I look forward to your comments.

I just brush mine off after every cook while still hot.

I never did anything but scrape the large chunks of residue off before the next cook. I recently replaced two original grids with stainless grids and, for some unknown reason, have been keeping them reasonably clean. I just scrub them with a ball of foil before each cook. Takes about 30 seconds (the max time I'm willing to spend). They have never seen soap or water.
Most on here will say, "you're supposed to clean them?!"I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I use the next fire for the clean-up unless there is some substantial residue which I will knock of with a putty knife before the next fire.

Have you got a big dog? Put it where he can get to it and you won’t have a speck of grease left on it.

I’m a fan of these. The entire grill may not be spotless, but you can keep the part that comes in food contact clean.Coleman, Texas

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
Given that OP is doing this to keep his wife happy, this is some DANGEROUS advice.jtcBoynton said:Always remember there is a difference between clean and showroom shiny.LBGE

Billy Bar works for me. I do it before the next cook. Sometimes I'll put some canola oil on a paper towel and oil up the grid before cooking specific things too. Mine is not clean per se but there isn't an obvious gunk on it. Looks like a cast iron pot or pan.Plymouth, MN

I also use a Billy Bar and it is great for removing the dried on gunk. I don't care if the grill is spotless and shiny, so 2 minutes with the Billy Bar is fine with me.

Maybe I’m staying the obvious, but might it be easier to simply swap wives?

Scrubbing the grid shiny clean after each use? I’d probably give up grilling.

I just briefly hit the grate with this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AKQ98MO/ after it's up to temp and right before what's going to be cooked gets put onto it. Never an issue there.
[disclaimer:] I'm single, so give exactly zero F's about what anyone else thinks about the 'cleanliness' level of the cooking grate on my BGE. I do this more for my own preferences than anything else. Even when someone else is over and I'm cooking for them too, I don't do any more than the brush to get the large bits off. Typically just linger items from the previous cook. There are also times when I don't use the brush at all before a new cooking. I also don't try to get the grate back to 'virgin shine' state.
