cooking Muffins

I tried to make muffins today on my large egg. The recipe called for 350, so I got the dome temp up to 350, They took a long time to cook. Should I have increase the temp a little to accomidate for the grid dome difference? Or should I just use my stove? any other hints welcome.

    Pdub,[p] There is a 30-50 degree difference between the Grate temp and the Dome temp. Get a Thermometer that can measure the grate temp too.[p] Leave your oven to store your tupperware or hide your Christmas presents in.
  • i had the dame problems with biscuits. I found almost double the amount of time said on the package. I bump it up 10 degrees and just keep watching it. But when they were done they sure were good. To much smoke flavor for me though so Iam going to try covering in foil next time.
    The best banana nut bread i have ever tasted came off the egg. Happy egging. andy

    I'm assuming you used a stone. If so, then a fair amount of time is needed to pre-heat it. The bread cooks I have done have all been close to published temps and time, after a good pre-heat. I use the plate setter with legs down, then the grid, then the stone and wait a full 30 minutes at the desired temp before putting the bread on.[p]I'm sure the other bread masters will chime in.

    NO stone, I don't own one yet. All the eggcessories start getting expensive. Will a stone have much effect while using a muffin tin?

    Give us more info on how you did your cook.

  • I started the egg, with a fire starter, got it going and then put in the place setter legs down with the grill on top. Let it sitt for quite a while, while I made the blueberry muffins batter(Gluten free mind you). Then I put the mix in a muffin pan and put it on top of the grill. The dome temp was at 350. It took 10-15 minutes longer than it should have.

    Muffins are a piece of cake. No pizza stone needed, just an inverted plate setter with grid on top for indirect setup. The muffin pan sits on the grid and you bake until its done, testing with a wooden skewer. If the recipe says 350 go 400 dome. I recommend a clean burning fire with fresh lump (no grease or wood from previous cook) when baking breads. Let the egg stabilize for 30-40 minutes and your good to go. Do not use your oven.

    I had the place setter legs up, with the grill on top of that and just set the muffin tin on top of that. I had the dome at 350. I let the grill set for a while before I cooked on it. Thanks guys for all the great responses. Rick that is some great lookin bread. I will definately try harder after looking at those, Hmmm. I take it the pizza stone helps to hold the the dome temp more concistent for better cooking of breads?

    the pizza stone is not absolutely necessary, but it helps![p]keep practicing![p]*practicing for something, i'm not just sure what it is yet*
