Adjustable Rig with extender

Right now I have a PSWoo and extender.  This setup has worked OK other than when I want to cook 3 or 4 racks of ribs (ribs hang off the D-grid on the extender) and the ends tend to get burned.  I'm contemplating pulling the trigger on the AR and extender with the oval stone. My question is, for those that have this setup, do you use it for everything?  Or do you also have the spider and circle stone?  I would think I could use the oval stone setup for all indirect cooks and not just the longer meats, right?

I have the spider and round stone, and I just use foil to extend the footprint for rib cooks.

  • For a Large BGE, buy the Woo with a 16" stone and drip pan (with handles). The 16" stone should be big enough for anything. The ConvEGGtor is just plain too small to be useful. Mine is in the basement. I also have the Adjustable Rig but I prefer the simplicity of the Woo.  https://ceramicgrillstore.com/collections/big-green-egg-large-accessories-by-ceramic-grill-store/products/large-woo-3-leg-bge

I have a CGS triangle support that sits on the bottom of the PSWoo using the 3 indents.  I put an oval stone on that. Tom used to sell an oval frame to make a drip pan that I also have.  With this set up and a rib rack, you could cook 3-4 racks and stay over the stone.

I have the setup you’re contemplating. The biggest problem? Storing all the pieces. That’s why I have a big gasser. It’s a super flexible setup. I could do 90% of my cooks with the plate setter, stock grid, 3 95 cent bricks and a small spare grid as a second level. But if you need some extra flexibility and space the AR with the spider and extender is pretty slick.

  • I use it for everything.  I wouldn't go back. In fact both eggs have the same setup.

This is my go to setup for 95% of my indirect cooks.

  • AR and oval stone for almost every cook, 4-5 racks of baby backs, I will put some foil on the ends if they are hanging over
