Butts on a large

I have been asked to cook some butts for a Christmas party of forty people. I have cooked three in my large before. I’m thinking for 40 people I might need four. What do you suggest for how many and if they will fit.

I could probably fit one on my Mini Max if need be.

3 on the bottom, with a foil wrapped brick in the middle.  4th one sits on top.  each butt will be around 7 pounds to start, and they cook down a few pounds, but you'll still have plenty for 40.

if you are at all busy doing other stuff, just smoke them on the egg for a few hours, then wrap them up and finish them in the oven.

  • I was going to put them on the night before then pull them when ready in the morning and stick them in my Cater Gator. Then pull them as needed at the party.

Seems like when I have done three I’ve had to put them up on their side. May be room for a brick in the middle. That’s a good idea. Thanks. How do I put one on top? The butts are taller than my raised rack.

I just cooked 3 butts that were 10 pounds each and I think that would be enough if you have some sides.
