crockpot stuffing

anyone tried it in a crockpot, never liked stuffing cooked outside the bird but thinking this could be closer with a long cook time

I prefer Dressing over Stuffing. Never had it from a crock pot. I like the top crusty part, so Dressing outside of the bird over Stuffing inside the bird is my choice.

The crockpot is an excellent vessel for cooking stuffing. The outer surface will develop a slight crust and the remainder is moist. I butter the crockpot add the stuffing a cook on low.

I'm a fan of cooking/baking/grilling/whatever the dressing in a shallow,  flat dish, to maximize the crunchy bits. A friend used to bake it in a mini muffin pans and that used to work well.

  • Yep- try your dressing in buttered muffin tins. More crunch per inch

also good in a waffle iron
  • Stuffing is cooked in the bird, dressing outside.  They're the same thing, otherwise.  At least that's my understanding.
I don’t know who told you this but it’s possible they are doing drugs.

looking for the texture like a stuffing cooked in the bird if im cooking say just a breast. not a fan of soft fall apart stuffing cooked out side a bird, not great for sandwiches. just wondering if crockpot stuffing is much different from oven baked dressing

  • Whether it be stuffing or dressing. Cooked inside the bird or not, there is only one golden rule. It does NOT come out of a box!

  • I use this recipe and we like it...just monitor it and sprinkle broth as you go to maintain moisture but it's easy to get this done and then let it go.  Makes a lot!

bought a small bird to stuff, will put the extra in the crock to test.  i really dont like casserole dressing, used to do 20 birds for a tday meal with mega amounts of dressing done in the oven, disliked it every year i did it. its like canned crannberry sauce verse homemade =)
