Good evening.
With the holiday coming up, I thought we might like a spot to put some recipes of the sides you'll be making. I have some traditional ideas, but saw this recipe and thought to myself, "Self, this has the forum written ALL OVER it".
I had to share it...

Digging the green bean casserole bundles! I usually get voluntold to make sweet potato casserole and chicken cornbread dressing for the holidays. Although, I need to venture out more with the sides. Hopefully, I will have time this year (working 7am-6pm mon-wed though). I am not a huge fan of marshmallows or meringue as a topping for sweet potato casserole/souffle so I have been using this recipe lately.
watch out for the 1 cup of sugar haha!

I'm going to try to a new recipe, Curried Roasted Carrots, cooked in the BGE along with the turkey. It looks easy and I love curry.

I have done carrots SV'd 183 for 75 minutes w butter and a little sugar. Finished w/ a hot pan sear. Very, very good!

Geez, Nola, you had to go and drop those....Why go to Nawlins for Mardi Gras, Jazz FEst, Brisket Camp? Maybe Thanksgiving would be the best time to visit????

My late MIL used to do Oyster dressing. She and my wife were the only ones who would touch it. My wife only to humor her mom. I tried it... once. Blech!!nolaegghead said:

Incredible! These carrots are one of the best things I've pulled off the grill and I'm not even a big fan of carrots.

We have found adding some sour cream and Monterey Jack cheese to the regular green beans casserole recipe makes it much better.

This dish was a favorite of my Father's for years. Now 60+ years later though with some changes it still is mine and my family's.
MRS. P’S SCALLOPED OYSTER CASSEROLE
½ pound fresh sliced mushrooms
2.5 sticks of butter
¼ cup chopped green pepper
1 tea salt
1.5 pint fresh oysters
3 cups crushed crackers
½ cup half and half
Saute’ mushrooms in 1 stick of butter for 5 to 10 minutes. Add green pepper and salt. Cook over low heat for 5 minutes longer.
Drain oysters, reserving the liquid.
Sprinkle 1/3 of the crackers in a greased baking dish. Top with ½ of the mushrooms and ½ of the oysters. Dot with ¼ cup of butter cut in slices. Repeat layer.
Sprinkle remaining crackers on top and dot with remaining butter pats.
Add cream and oyster liquid by pouring over the top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Makes 6 to 8 rich servings
