XL with cracked base. What would you pay?

Local CL has an XL with a cracked base for sale for $400. It looks like it comes with the stand, stock internals and plastic mates from what I can see in the pics. Going into this knowing I would be replacing the base if I purchased it what would be a reasonable offer? Or would you pass completely?  Thanks.

    Check and see how much a new base will cost you compared to buying a Demo XL at an Eggfest.

    I have no idea what the price of Demo Eggs in your area might be.
    But in my area, knowing the base was bad at $400 + $475 for new base, I would buy a new Demo Egg. I have replaces parts on my XL many times under warranty.

    See if the seller is the original owner and have him put in a warranty claim.

    I'd pass at $400. I could maybe see $200 - $250 tops if you were going to rebuild. Look to see how much the XL is from your local dealer. You can usually find a nest and mates for under $50 on Craigslist. If you can get just the XL for under $900 you won't be far of from what you'd pay for a used XL with a warrientied base.

    Thanks for the replies so far. I was thinking of offering $200 for it. 

    Im assuming he is not the original owner because he isn't doing a claim and selling but good question to ask. 

    I know I wouldn't have the warranty on the rest but if I buy a new base would my new piece have the warranty?

    Yes. The new base would come with warranty

    He could be the original owner and just not know about the warranty.

    How cracked is the base...You quite likely have no clue but I had a cracked base on my LBGE (warranted) that turned out to self-seal for a few years.  No issues with cooks in any temperature range-it was in a nest and that may have helped. 
    Short of firing it up and letting it get to temp I don't know how you would determine the crack but may be worth a shot.  FWIW-
    Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

    From the pic it is pretty bad. At least not something I would attempt to put a couple pounds of burning charcoal in.

    I would buy it for $400 in a second.  But that is me.  I bought a busted up egg once.  Kept everything but the base.  Eventually I got a base from someone else's warranty cast off, and I JB welded it together.  Works fine.  The fire is from an alcohol burn when I was cleaning it before JB weld extreme heat was applied.






    This isn't my daily driver, in fact I stashed the egg at my moms in a table I found for $100.  Side bonus is the ranch kettle next to it has a little side table space.  My point is I would not panic from cracks, depending on the severity of them.  And actually to be honest, if it has a clean break, its better as you can get more jb weld into the seam instead of just patching the surface.  Its only been 3 cooks, but it has held up just fine.  This repair may not be for everyone tho.  For one, it challenges the OCD mind as it looks like a 3 year old glued the egg back together.  So aesthetics are challenging here.  But in the case of this egg, it is only visible from the rear.  These cracks could surface again, and require further repair too.  But for a frankenegg in a table for roughly a hundred bucks, plus jb weld, it works pretty good.
