Outdoor kitchen design

I am beginning to design my deck & connected outdoor kitchen. The kitchen & egg will take up one side of the 22x16 ft deck.
How much deck space do I design in for the XL egg (on rolling rest) 4'x4' ? I want to make sure that I leave enough clearance between the Egg and the deck rail (2 sides) and the egg & the countertop on the other side.
Planning on using fire resistent hardwood for the decking. The cabinets will use a recycled granite countertop top, along with corrugated steel roofing & a reused exterior door. Trying to keep it somewhat simple, looking for a used sink (garden hose connection) and a propane side burner.
Will probably put a corrugated steel roof over the egg & kitchen as we live in the PNW.
Any ideas would be helpful.

My only suggestion is face your own home not the wall that faces your nei

We are fully fenced (cedar) surrounded by greenery. Deck/ outdoor kitchen is 3.5 feet off ground. Was thinking of having the egg on an outer corner to give space from the house.td66snrf said:My only suggestion is face your own home not the wall that faces your nei
With the roof above the egg, does this create any significant issues or concerns? -

Here is where we are at with the 16x22 batu "mahagony" deck. The permit for deck was checked off today. Planning on using the XL egg on the deck for a few weeks as we decide how far across the build the countertop. The egg will probably will live on the stand to keep it simple and flexible.
Did not go for the roof as we had to replace the sewer and water lines$$$$$
I did score on a New Summerset builder commercial gas grill to build in & got a small stainless steel sink. Have a bunch of 2x6 mahogany that we are using for a picnic table style counter top.
Total cost so far- $10k

Very nice. One of those grilling mats under the egg would be good. Wouldn't want to stain the deck.

Is the egg going to stay in the nest or in the built in. Is the egg gonna sit on the granite or on the wood. What else is going in the space. Is the gas grill natural gas or propane. 32 or 40 inch. Any lighting around the area? Wiring to run for aound speakers or electric?Columbus, Ohio

I'd recommend the egg go into the center 'slot' so you can have counters on both sides, I put my egg to one side and wish I had more room on one side. I assume you are taking off the 'wings' since you'll have counter space if you're staying in the nest. No other suggestions vs what has been said.. like the grill mat idea for stains
Nice deck!

This is Batu. Similar to mahogany. Farmed.
A step below ipe... does not get slippery when wet like ipe.

I was going to use the und bay for the egg... to keep smoke farther from the back door.

Yeah, that was my first impression ... that wood looks amazing, almost thought it was composite as the grain looks near perfectly smooth.Napoleon Prestige Pro 665, XL BGE, Lots of time for BBQ!

The predrilling and countersinking each screw is tedious. Wouldn't want to know what labor would've cost if I hired it out.
-
I wanted IPE, but I was thinking I could rip out/replace the cedar every few years to avoid refinishing and still be cheaper for decades

Batu decking should outlast the framing if cleaned/ stained yearly.

Does it turn gray like ipe if you don’t keep it oiled? We built our deck out of ipe 16 years with hidden fasteners so it looks great, but is weathered gray again. I need to sand and oil it but that crap stinks for like 3 days.MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.

It goes grey if you leave it alone. Tends to go dark red over time if stained yearly. A brighter & cleaner will lighten it up some.. Batu has the same class A fire rating as Ipe.

Nice, I went with Ipe for that reason and that it is impervious to insectsTekkamaki said:It goes grey if you leave it alone. Tends to go dark red over time if stained yearly. Progress on the gas grill/ pizza oven today. Natural gas lines in. Thinking about bringing NG to the fire table. Burning through propane like crazy.

-
Thinking of vertical slots for my BGE accessories under the gas grill. Dorm sized fridge between grills under a countertop?
