Anniversary Dinner Ideas

Alright gang, today is my 9th anniversary, and tomorrow we are doing the dinner thing for it. Wife wants to stay in, so I want to cook a meal that will WOW her into some festivities later on. Usually we go to the japanese place for dinner on special occasions and have sushi and some hibachi food.

I have all day to cook tomorrow, I'm off work.

I have the egg, sous vide, instant pot, blendtec, and a blackstone at my disposal. GO!

I would go with a few appetizers that she enjoys (cooked and served thin sliced cold beef tenderloin?? ) and a couple of bottles of good champagne.
don't cook all day...gotta save the energy.  B)

Obvious question, but what does she like?  My wife always wants lamb shanks or braised short ribs for special occasion dinners, so those over cheese grits is what I’m used to.

I made a shrimp mousseline with scallops and crab for Mother's Day. Turned out very nicely. You have all the necessary gizmos.

  • She likes seafood, i typically do not care for it too much. @caliking i saw the thread where you made that thing, i don't believe i will go to those lengths tomorrow.

She does like steaks though, I was thinking of maybe a flank steak sous vide and finished on the blackstone with some teriyaki hibachi style and get some sushi from the local kroger (pretty dang good) although I don't think i want to spend any money at kroger anymore.

i am lazy and uncreative.  i go for fairly simple.
app - crostini with goat cheese and caramelized onion.  can do the onion and the crostini ahead of time.  drink champagne.
dinner- steak and scallops.  can sous vide the steak, sear it when ready, then cook the scallops when the steak is resting.  i throw a CI skillet on the egg and cook them there - add a chunk of wood to add just a little smoke to the scallops.  drink champagne.
dessert - whatever.  it'll taste good with champagne.
and after all that champagne? brown chicken brown cow

  • brown chicken brown cow is on the menu for sure.

a crostini? never had one, but it appears to be toasted bread? would that be good with brie?

Stuffed salmon with brie and crab is awesome - find a McCormick and Shmicks recipe.  And a prime filet so you have best of both worlds.   Congrats!

Don’t do anything that is heavy since covfefe is on the menu. Romping isn’t fun when you’re bloated.

Our favorite "special occasion" dinner was always rack of lamb with potatoes au gratin and Caesar salad.
  • I have decided to do the large croutons with brie and caramelized onions for a starter, probably champagne or a white wine to start. Steak and scallops for the main?, asparagus? or sprouts for the side, red wine with that. A local cabernet sauvignon likely. Dessert will be probably nothing, we aren't huge dessert eaters.

Anyone have any easy main course ideas that knock socks off?

    My bad. Just re-read. It's your 9th not 19th.

  • Brussels with a balsamic reduction glaze.  Also, I have been roasting baby potatoes and them tossing them in pesto and grated Parmesan cheese.  Pretty damn tasty and even easy.

Burnt tomatoes à la Francis Mallmann. Quick, easy and mighty tasty. Turns even dead of winter grocery store tomatoes into a treat. Farm fresh, even better! I usually coarse grind the pepper instead of peppercorns.

  • Well she told me she wants the japanese food.

I picked up three sushi rolls at the store, and I got the other stuff. It's going to be a flat iron steak teriyaki with hibachi style udon noodles and green tea mochi for dessert.

Steak is rubbed with some salt and pepper, ginger, and fresh garlic. In the hot tub at 120 degrees for 2 hours or so.

We have an international grocery store nearby, I love that place

Too bad about the Japanese. I was going to suggest.
