Ghee deal on woot

Lit
Lit Posts: 9,053
Looks like a good deal. (2) 9 oz jars for $7.99 and its one of the best rated on amazon. The 9 oz jar by itself is $11.49 on amazon. I got 6 jars. If you haven;t tried GHEE its much better than butter in my opinion and it doesn't burn like butter does when cooking with it.

I make my own as well. But this is a great price for a good product. I am not sure I can make my own for much less. And I "could" burn the milk solids and ruin the batch. I think I will order a few to keep on hand.

I have made my own in the past but I started buying commercial ghee a few years ago just to see how much different it might  be from what I made using the ubiquitous Land 'o Lakes butter I always used.

I usually make my own as well, using Kerrygold salted.

But  I apparently had $8 burning a hole in my pocket.

I like the store bought better. I'm guessing the main reason may be the quality of the butter (tho I think Land o Lakes is fine for my butter needs) or my lack of consistency in hitting the sweet spot when cooking the butter. Knowing me I'll say the latter is more likely. :)
The last store bought stuff I got was this stuff:

Amazon had it on sale for $10 off so I gave it a try. I've never really kept "tasting notes" of the ones I've tried in the past and have tried a few brands. They all seemed fine but this stuff I would order again even at its normal price ($39 or a couple bucks less if subscribe and save).
So now I'll be trying whatever woot was selling today and ordered enough to likely last 8 or 9 months at which point I'll probably order something else. Still have a little bit of the Ancient Organics left so I can do a side by side comparison but may not be fair comparing older bottom of the barrel with "fresh" from the store (assuming woot isn't selling stuff whose expiry date is next month).
Do you buy commercially made; any brand you prefer?

    Haha.
You know I love nothing better than taking/posting food pix!
Here's a closeup of the last batch I made:

Not as nutty as I wanted - shoulda cooked longer methinks.

P.S. - I actually use the name HeavyGhee on another forum. I guess you could say I really am a Ghee man.

It’s a type of clarified butter originating from India but it’s cooked longer so tends to be nuttier. You use it as you would butter but it’s taste is slightly different and with the milk solids removed it doesn’t burn like butter would

Mine showed up yesterday but it wasn’t a 2 pack just a single. I emailed woot that the description said 2 pack and they refunded my money and didn’t ask to return the jars I got. It was still an ok deal for just 1 even but would have been a great deal for 2. I can’t believe they just refunded all 3.

Glad to see some folks have started receiving their ghee. Too bad they didn't fill the order as advertised. The email I got from woot says mine should arrive Sept 4th.
Really hoping that I get the quantity expected but if they're going to refund the order and I get whatever I get for free I can live with that. :)

I got an email saying my order shipped, and it's out for delivery today. So let's see when I get home.

Good deal for 2 jars, but I'd probably just make my own if it's $8 for one jar.
