Bad Egg Bowl

Bought my new XL Egg the first of Feb. Have had the bottom band come off several times. Realized that the bracket at the back was completely together therefore unable to tighten it further. Told this to the guy that sold it to me and he said "I must have gotten one of the bad bowls". Apparently there was a bad mold and some bowls were made too small. Anyone experience this? I've now been waiting over a week for the new one then will have to wait to schedule them to come switch it out. Surprised that Quality Control isn't better than this.

Yes, Big Green Egg had a run of XL bases that had issues with the mold. They called it a "tapering" issue. My local distributor was telling stories of chucking new XL bases into the dumpster to destroy them.

QC is complicated. Before you know it, you have a couple thousand defective products out there

I’m running one that’s about a year old (also an XL), that I’ve had to tighten the lower band for a few times now.  As is, there’s about half a centimeter left before the two ends of the bracket are touching each other and can’t tighten any more.  Have another XL (2010 timeframe), a Large (2016), and a mini-max (2017), none of which have ever had similar challenges.  Definitely curious to see how your experience turns out!

I ended up getting a new bowl and dome. They originally sent out a new bowl, but because the original was a bad mold, my original dome didn't fit; tried to tell them to just sent a complete new grill in the first place but... so if anyone finds that they have one of the bad molds, just fight for a complete new grill. Everything working and fitting good now.
