Logitech Harmony or other A.I.1 remotes

I've been fighting with multiple remotes and whatever remotes a device comes with for years and I'm finally over it. From what I can find the Logitech Harmony remotes are pretty good and control just about everything known to man. Does anyone use them and/or have advice for a better a choice? I will be controlling a Roku, surround system and the t.v. to start. Thanks.

I have been using a Harmony Hub for several years. I am controlling a DVR/Satellite receiver, smart TV, and DVD player. My only complaint is that the remote itself needs rebooting a couple of times a week, and the hub needs to reboot a couple of times a month. And Logitech's support isn't very user friendly.

I’ve done URC, Harmony, control4 systems
all of them work well but the harmony can be self programmed which is great when you get new gear. Personal preference get the rf control system.Greensboro, NC -

I've been using a single Harmony One for ten years now. Controls a TV, AV receiver, various Dish boxes, and more recently a VHS>CD recorder, three different Oppo disk players, and a Roku box. Couldn't be happier. I pretty much operate most of the buttons without even looking; consistency is a good thing.
Just be sure to mount the recharging cradle within arm's reach, it drains its battery in 2-3 days. I can't recall ever having to reboot mine.

My oppo Blu-ray player just hit a wall. Sad they aren’t making them any longer because they were fantastic.

I tried a Harmony. It wasn't for me. I bought one of the high end touch screen models a few months ago. I returned it quickly. I wanted to simplify my life, not create complexity. My setup may be a little more complex than most. I have the traditional 5+1 home theater setup that multi tasks driving two additional music zones on the deck. I never could get the Harmony to control the zones correctly.I also have an Apple Tv, Nvidia Shield, Roku, Tivo. Oppo BluerayCurrently, there are seven remotes on my table. Each dedicated to a single device, but they never fail to do what they are supposed to do. No missed complex automated control sequences that result in devices being placed in the wrong operational mode.I may have failed to put in the necessary time to learn to setup the remote.

Yup. I got the BDP-83 when they first came out, wore it out. Got the BDP-103, wore it out, but Oppo had moved on. Got a barely-used -93, and keeping my fingers crossed. I understand Pioneer now has a universal disk player, but they want $1000 for it. I've got a pretty large collection of SACDs, DVD-As, Blurays and even Bluray Audio (Tom Petty!) disks, and love how they sound. Am keeping my eye on the used market...Wolfpack said:My oppo Blu-ray player just hit a wall. Sad they aren’t making them any longer because they were fantastic.

Do you have your hub setup for a static IP address? Sounds like that might be changing hence why you need to reboot to get the IP address.55Kevy said:I have been using a Harmony Hub for several years. I have been using a Logitech Harmony for years now. Works great. I have simplified my system and am down to seven devices now. Other than device setup, I only use the Harmony.Southeast Florida - LBGE

I've got the Logitect Harmony as well - works great for controlling several devices. Only have to re-boot/update once or twice a year.Formerly of Houston, TX - Now Located in Bastrop, TX

Great info so far, thanks all. I'm leaning towards the 950. Doing a little reading last night it seems I need the hub to control the Roku. Did I read that correct?

I have the Harmony One but now that I using my AppleTV 4K I only need the Apple TV remote unless I need to use my DVD player which is 1% of the time.

I've got this one and have been very happy with it all around. Controls SmartTV (yay), AppleTV (yay), Sonos (yay), Comcast (boo) in lots of zones. The zone thing isn't a function of the remote -- that's the amp.

It's a 302 thing . . . -

I have no idea. Also, what is an 'oppo' bluray?Kevin

I've used Logitech Harmony's for years and I think they're great. Even better, get yourself a hub and remote (on sale for $50), and you can control everything with Alexa. I use Alexa all the time to pause and play the TV while making dinner and heading out to the egg.Cincinnati, OH

Oppo is a brand. They made cd/dvd/bluray players. One of the best (some might argue the best) on the market. With video and music streaming and downloading the market for players of optical discs has gotten smaller. Oppo apparently being a smallish producer found the market unprofitable and switched to other products.55Kevy said:saluki2007 said:

Yup. They smoked on virtually all technical reviews, and I was/am extremely happy with all three models i had/have. The real kicker for me was the ability to play 5.1-channel mixes (DVD-A, SACD, Bluray Audio formats, along with all DVD/Bluray movies). Hearing Dark Side of the Moon, Bohemian Rhapsody, and some Steely Dan and Roxy Music tracks in full 5-channel glory, well, it just doesn't get any better than that for me.jtcBoynton said:

There is a very high-end audio/professional recording company called Eventide (incredible reverb units!) who were caught, red-handed, selling a $5,000 universal disc player; one tech reviewer opened it up and discovered a $2,000 Oppo, inside an aluminum shell with the Eventide name on it! Snap!
I was very disappointed when Oppo abandoned the universal disc player, but I totally understand; the audiophile hobby is going the way of the carburetor.
Oppo IS making some waves with their new smartphones, including camera lenses underneath the screen (not sure how that works). Tech, marches on...“I'll have what she's having."
