OT - Why I ADORE Costco

Our almost $700 Vitamix did not appear to be working properly this morning. Knowing that it carries a seven year manufacturer’s warranty, we took it into Costco, where we bought it in 2016. We fully expected them to tell us to deal with the manufacturer, which would have been fine. Nope. Within 5 minutes, we were refunded the full amount and were informed as to the dates of the next Vitamix roadshow at our local Costco, in case we wanted to replace it (which we will). This, after having returned a broken two year old humidifier a few months back.

Their return policy cannot be beat!!

Also, I cannot fail to mention that in making the trip for the Vitamix, I just happened to glance at the meat cooler and noticed they were carrying full packers again - something they’ve done only once for a brief period several years back. Very, very hard to find packers in my area and when I do at butcher shops, they are killer expensive!

Yahoooooooooooo!!

and just think you could have returned your 8 year old fake Christmas tree too. But afterwards you would have dealt with the wrath of these fine folks.

Go buy your skivvies at Costco and you’ll never have to buy them again.

So I assume you are the proud owner of $700 worth of full packers?

Sadly, my wife capped the limit at one packer today. Divorce pending. 😉
You need to do some 'splainin.  2 is the absolute low-level alarm trip wire, especially if you can grab two good ones-he!! if you can find 3 good ones grab and go.
The reason for two-you always have one ready to thaw and go that you know passed your basic flop/flex test.  If you run with one-then once you fire it up you have no reserves should the long brisket drought hit your store unless you free-wheel the CC for the suitable SRF audible.  And if you can sell that then you should be in sales.  =)

Picked a whole prime strip loin and a couple of chickens - great products and prices.

    Good thinking as usual, Cap!

Guess I’m not cut out for sales. Much in line with your suggestion, I laid out my brisket strategy for my wife, informing her that one would go straight to the freezer to prevent potential brisket-famine. She did not buy it.

Looks like I’m moving on to my next strategy - cook it as soon as possible (probably this weekend), thereby paving the way for an eminently reasonable brisket purchase in absence of brisket. Foolproof. Sometimes I’m so strategic that it scares me.

If you have the luxury of a time and don't need to hammer home the brisket famine that is always lurking then give it 3-4 weeks of wet aging.  Just toss in the fridge in the cryovac , fat cap up and enjoy.
Upon further review, I know you are holding the serious short end of the stick with the just recent arrival (measured in a few days) of your son.  And rightfully so! So perhaps this should be tabled for a while.  You know the right answer- =)

A little bit gun shy about wet aging after my last experience.

Probably just too long. Prior to the failure linked above, my first two month wet aging experience was overwhelmingly positive.

There's a possible second feature to note here.
If Costco (a national distributor) is willing to directly support the warrantees of their brand offerings, that tells me they do some research into those brands before stocking them, and may be a good indicator of those brands' reliability.
ie, skip personal researching/CR, just buy off the shelf at Costco?  :glasses:

I retired from a major retailer and know the issue of returns handling is incorporated into the cost of the merchandise paid to the vendor.  If the retailer is going to handle returns and dispose of the damaged/defective goods, they negotiate a lower cost.  Another handling is the retailer refunds to the customer, returns the merchandise to the vendor and the vendor issues credit back to the retailer.  The retailer will pay more to the vendor is this is how the returns are handled.

Most major(good) retailers communicate back to the manufacturer reasons for returns so quality issues may be addressed.

Costco's no-hassle returns policy is certainly one of the reasons for their success.

I returned a small greenhouse to Costco. My wife wanted it.  The thing was junk.  I assembled per instructions. It lasted 3 days before it collapsed in a mild rain event.  I put all that plexiglass and aluminum framing covered in mud, chicken excrement,  and grass clippings into my truck and drove it over there. I piled it on one of their orange carts and wheeled it in.  Still raining.  . . Dripping all over the floor....I got a lot of looks.  . . The customer service
Guy saw the look on my face....I don't even know if two words were said.  I got my money back.

There was a thing on TV about this some time ago.  It's big competition to get products into Costco.  They do make some mistakes though, and that's when the generous return policy becomes a huge thing.  Generally, things are priced better at Costco than you can do elsewhere, so between price and warranty, there really isn't much point in shopping around.
