Cheap option for upper rack

does anyone know of or have a cheaper option for suspending a smaller second grill grate above the primary grate in my LBGE? I have the Eggspander , which was $40, but the secondary rack accessory for it is $90 at my local dealer . No way I’m paying that .

For Large Egg - One 16" Weber stainless steel grate, four 5" stainless steel bolts, twelve stainless steel nuts and twelve stainless steel washers. Bolts, nuts and washers are either 3/8" or 1/4", I don't remember which.
About $25 at Home Depot.

I went through this exercise as well. $80 for the smokeware top rack on amazon seemed ridiculous. I screwed around with other options for a while that pissed me off, fell over, I burned myself, etc. I ended up spending the money and while expensive, I have to say was clearly worth the cost. You'll cringe hitting the buy button, but in the end, it's the right tool for the job, and they know that. In the end, I'm $1k into the egg, $80 into the kick ash basket, $45 into the smokeware cap, and now $80 into the top rack. My egg is easily $750 better than it was stock and the few clutch upgrades only cost me $205. You can Mcgyver anything, but it's still a workaround junk solution once you see the light with the right tool.
And yes, I know, I was drunk and burnt the corn. But the peppers were incredible. -
If you have a second grate and want to do it on the real cheap, pound 3 aluminum canned beers and use the empty cans to support the rack. FWIW-

I went with the Weber rack and stainless bolts, but I only used three legs - it is rock solid. Remember, three points define a plane, four points define a table that tips every time you move something.XL BGE in San Jose, CA. Also a Pit Barrel Cooker, a Cal Flame P4 gasser, and lots of toys including the first ever Flame Boss 300 in the wild. And a new Flame Boss 500.

regular house bricks wrapped in foil will also work. I wrap them in foil in case they spall, but have never had that happen.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

I did Weber grate, SS bolts, and nuts. One plus to this, besides inexpensive, is you can adjust the height if you have something large on the bottom.
