Used XL Egg...is price right?

Depends on the risk you want to take paying full price for any future issues.
Check with your local dealer on the cost to purchase a new XL Base.
Replacement parts for the XL are expensive and rising.

The big difference here is buyer ignorance.
Many people looking to buy a used Big Green Egg either assume the life time warranty still covers them or have no idea that the ceramics crack and have never priced replacement parts.
Asking questions BEFORE you buy makes you an educated buyer.
OK, so I just payed $800 for a used XL in great shape 6 months ago and now I find a crack in my base. Dealer wants $400.00 for just the new base. (I'm guessing at price, I'm sure price varies tremendesly by location) Now I have spent $1200.00 and still have an Egg with NO warranty.
I love that used Eggs sell so well. I have a small to sell soon and I'm sure it will sell for more than I would pay for it. As a buyer of a used Egg, you are playing the odds in hopes it will never have a major problem.

All this said, the initial price is your cheapest purchase. Since my $600 buy in, I've bought #1500 of lump, spent 500+ at CGS, I have my butcher's home number on speed dial, bought a sous vide, a 36" Blackstone, that Japanese soy sauce, a dozen books, an instant read thermometer and a dual probe, I bribed a dude at Costco to call me when they get Prime anything, I could rattle on. 

I'd buy it. Just wrap your head around the whole thing.

I love my XLs, I have two of them.  Neither of them had a cracked base.  While I feel for you @abpgwolf, your experience is not typical of most XL users.

Price is subjective and regional here.  Some of us cite how much we have paid as the cost for an XL, others cite the cost that we sold our XL to someone else.  I bought one of my XLs used about 6 years ago (dont know exactly) for $500.  It has been an awesome egg with no warranty issues outside of bands that I had to replace.  I am getting ready to sell it to buy a 2XL.  My second XL was purchased from a dealer for $1100.  My competition are two used XLs currently listed:

I am surprised by the listing for $625, and I have talked to the owner and he has had little interest for it.  This has been a very cold and wet spring for Utah, and I believe that could be affecting interest in BBQ.  My other theory is that everyone is more interested in pellet cookers, and kamado interest is somewhat declining (in my area, anyway).  I will sell mine at whatever it takes to do so in 1 week, I am interested in space for the new 2XL over worrying about getting top dollar.

My point to @seedman76 is to do your research for your area.  I watch the big green eggs being sold every day on Facebook market, and the site I posted above.  Its something I have done every day for the last 8 years or so.  I know how long each egg is posted, how long they take to sell, and what the going price is to move them quickly.  I often contact the sellers to see what the market interest is, without any intention to buy.

If that egg was being sold in my market, with those accessories, for that price, its listing would last less than a day.  YMMV.

That is correct. I verified this ordering a new dome, firebox, and firering directly from BGE (for a mini project).  

As others have said. That's a good price for an XL. I'm just always surprised at the number of people that come on here asking about used egg prices. In my opinion if you don't get the warranty with it any price over $200-$300 for a larger size egg is not worth it.

Really? I don't think so.  We're talking about an MSRP that is over $1000 and easily approaching over $2000 with larger eggs, tables and accessories included.  I look at it as a risk vs. reward equation.  Eggs do crack and plenty of people here have benefited from the warranty... but BGE sells a lot of eggs. The vast majority of eggs do not crack or they'd go broke sending out new ones to people.  If you do a good inspection of the egg, it's a good gamble.   (I respect your opinion, though!)

I just personally would not spend more than a few hundred. Not saying his price is a bad deal just me personally I wouldn't. I like having the warranty. To me that's what you are paying for. Without it I would look at a Plain Jane Weber 22" and save several hundred dollars. But again, by all means 550 for an XL warranty or not is a good price no question.
