Fire Ring is Fused to Fire Box. Help!!

Bought a used large BGE to go with my Medium. Once I got her home, I realized the ring has been basically fused to the fire box. Looks like the previous owner just didn’t really clean the egg much. I’m wondering if I go ahead and fire it up if the ring will loosen up. Thoughts are appreciated!!

Light a fire take it up to 550-600 degrees and let if run to do a clean burn. This should take care of any issues.

Clean as much gunk out as you can, load it with fresh lump, and then fire it as ryantt suggests.

Thanks, folks. Td66, they aren’t aligned well, for one thing. So the ring is inhibiting air flow on one side. I’ll try a clean burn this afternoon. Thanks again!

You may not need to get as hot as a clean burn, which sometimes blows the older gaskets. Maybe try hot, dome 450 for an hour or so, and see if the part detach.

Its good to have the fire ring removable to get the grill down onto the pot for hi-temp sears.

Lift them both out together, get some dental floss or strong twine and pull it around the joint to separate all the grease/gunk that’s holding it together.
