No, the Eggs are near the house and the tub is around 100 feet up the garden. Frosty early morning picture.

    Damn.  That is beautiful.
What's in the hut?  Sauna? Changing room? Beer Fridge?
Just changing, it does have power so a beer fridge is an option.

Mine was way too effing hot Saturday night. SWMBO should have believed me when I warned her not to follow my mistaken attempt to get in. More worthless “I told you so” rights.

Long story, as they always are. Fortunately, there was so much evaporation I was able by re-filling to bring it down to a bearable 104!

117!  Pretty sure my Jacuzzi is limited at 104.

It was at 128 before it cooled down to 117.  Lucky no one's eggs got poached.  Or worse.

  • The easiest way for keeping your water in balance is a mineral cartridge by Zodiac called Nature2. Slides into the center of your filter and lasts about 90 days. You activate it with a heavy chlorine or bromine shock, maintain with some non-chlorine shock depending on bather load during the week, then just a normal shock every week or so to keep the water clear. No dip strips. No ph up or down. By far the easiest way to go! Plus the cartridges are only like $25.
I owned a Artic Spa for 15 years and it’s all I ever used!

Please have the spa company where you purchased the your spa or an electrician check everything for damage.

They're all on speed-dial.  To say this most recent experience has been unpleasant would be an understatement.  [It's an older, custom built spa, engineered by morons, came with the house.  Delightful when it's working, tho.]

    Glad you are both OK.

"Or worse" happened to a friend/coworker years ago. Inquest pointed to faulty spa component way overheating water. Presumed to have fallen in and drowned. Family was unaware since she sometimes would relax after work and dinner for an hour in the spa, located away from the house.

I used those for years.  I follow the same regimen (shock once a week unless bather loads vary).  Eventually I got tired of buying those $25 cartridges every 3 months so just stopped using it...  haven't noticed any difference.
What is it supposed to do anyway?  I'm not opposed to it, just you know... $25 is a lot for a plastic thingy with invisible powers. :)  I suppose I just started to think it was snake oil.

@Stoogie what did you decide?  Do you have pics?  We are also now considering a hot tub
Sorry, I got busy and then hit with the flu and I'm just starting to feel better and getting in to the swing of things

@Eoin - that is a sweet set up!  Jealous!

The foundation that my hot tub is sitting on is an exposed aggregate patio.  The cement guy knew exactly what he was doing and I was there supervising every step of the way.  And by supervising, I mean I stood and watched them do their thing while drinking a beer.  They wanted me no where near what they were doing and I was fine with that.

    Pictures -

First, the snow shovel job was done by a 16 year old.  Not a good job.  As I look out here, my egg is to my right.

I wonder if I pay him, he'd do a better job.

Near the picnic table is where the fire pit is.

Overall, I'm really happy that we have a hot tub out there and I'm even more happy that it's used by most of my family on a regular basis.  I had my doubts about it at first.

    Using chlorine.
    ...
And do that  before you have added the chlorine or oxidizer.
That'll keep your tub clear. If you miss that you'll get a cloudy tub...  if you miss it for several weeks you'll get a black gelatinous moldy growth like you've never seen.  The things that can grow in the dark at 104 degrees are scary, let me tell you!
If you should get cloudy water, Is there anything you can do short of draining and refilling? I see lots of warnings about cloudy tubs, but no remedy.

Add chlorine, shock pot if you have it. Once it's clear, clean your filters.

I agree with @Eoin on fixing cloudy water.  Sooner the better as well.  When my dealer installed my tub he gave me a bottle of this -

    http://www.spapureusa.com/index.php/products/accessories/clarifier/

He went to the extreme to make sure that I knew to add just a little bit and that it wasn't supposed to be something that I used on a regular basis.  While my chemical levels have tested "low", I have actually had clear water so I've never used this at all.  But it's supposed to be something that helps.  You have to make sure that once its used and the water clears to clean and/or replace your filters.
