Help with hinge lock tabs

Have a question about locking the band so I can take off the dome to change my gasket. The spacers lock tabs that came with it I forgot how they fit on actually they don't look like they fit it all can I just zip tie the hinge closed before loosening and taking the top off and flip it upside down to change the gasket?

    hold the dome open and pry the springs off with a screwdriver, makes things simpler

    ...although I agree with @fishlessman that it seems just as easy and perhaps safer to remove the springs. 

    Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

    I replaced mine with a Rutland gasket (and Permatex Ultra Copper as the adhesive). Only one required. Remove both old gaskets, clean the surfaces and install the new gasket on the base. No need to remove the dome.

    I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

    Fish is right. Hold dome open and pop springs off. It’s pretty easy that way.
