Finally, Over the Top

I'm way behind the times, apparently, and just caught on to the "over the top" chili thing...
Finally made a go of it today.  Aside from the usual, here are the differences from the norm:
  • Half the beans, onions, garlic were pureed ahead of assembly of the pot of chili and mixed back in
  • A copious amount of shiitake mushrooms were a part of said puree
  • The meatballs were 50/50 pork chorizo and beef
  • The bacon lattice on the meatballs was local thick cut goodness.
Best chili ever..
I served it in a bowl sans noodles, with crumbles of the meat (of course), some grated sharp cheddar, sour cream, topped with cilantro.
I fried some fresh corn tortilla chips and loaded them with homemade guac on the side. Pictures:
