(Warning: diatribe)My MO (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modus_operandi) AKA "operation method" is borne of curiosity of history and culture.Just about any traditional dish has a history that spans cultures, countries and it's own evolutionary tree. So, for sake of argument, I want to cook paella.Level 1.First thing I'll do is look up paella in Wikipedia.I'll browse through the history, ingredients, etc. Next I'll filter the various styles through what I have (both ingredients and equipment), what's fresh and good and available and what I like (and through what my target diners like/dislike). All this happens organically, and almost without conscious thought.Level 2. Search for paella with key words based on summary of information from level 1. I'll read a bunch of recipes, look at reviews (with skepticism) and mentally file an ingredient, process list in my head.Level 3. Execution - is it worth going to store or ordering and doing later? Run through quality vs effort calculations, postpone, or go full Leroy Jenkins. That is is.

Addendum to above: I don't use recipes unless I'm baking. I read many and make my own.
