I you go on the website they show set ups and you can figure it out from there.
The cross bars go on the structure of the AR to create your extra grid level. The cross bar with the slides goes on the opposite side at the same level creating a platform to put the oval grate.
Have fun and play with it before you get it hot and try to figure it out while your egg is going.

No, you do not need the spider.

The link above may help. It's really not that complicated after you do it. I know a Box of parts can be intimadating at first. Needs to be assembled on a table, not in the grill the first time.
I bought everything including a second d-grid and the raised grid option. I stood there after laying everything out and just scratched my head for a minute before I got it all assembled. No big deal. -
This link may help also...

Has anyone set this on a cast iron grate that is on the fire ring? And if so did it work okay?

I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’tThrasherIII said:Has anyone set this on a cast iron grate that is on the fire ring? And if so did it work okay? -
Why do you use two stones?rifrench said:Here is my AR set up for ribs.

Enquiring minds need to know why Two stones? Versus using the place setter with a cast iron grate on top then the rig on top of the cast iron grate?
-
Greater resistance to direct heat with another stone.

@sancho65 Ah, thanks. Why not just foil the stone and skip the drip pan? That's what I do, but I've seen many folks that use the drip pan instead. Curious if there is an advantage to either.Washington County, MD

I like a drip pan with an air gap above the stone. Keeps the drippings from burning and creating a dirty smoke.

Thanks for supporting our family biz. The Rig takes a little getting use to but once you play some, the set-ups come easily and the capabilities are near endless. Several weeks ago, we played with the large rig in the EGG, using our and EGG accessories. We stopped at just over 90 different set-ups, figured that was good!
We are working on formulating a Rig Video series. It's a lot of info to get across to a wide spectrum of minds.......

Did you by chance try the placesetter topped with a cast iron grate the ARB on top of that thus allowing three levels and if it would be possible to add the ARB extender to create a fourth level ?
-
oh, no way, just so much headroom in that curved dome....... the platesetter, conveggtor, really messes with multi-grid set-ups.ThrasherIII said:Did you by chance try the placesetter topped with a cast iron grate the ARB on top of that thus allowing three levels and if it would be possible to add the ARB extender to create a fourth level ?

Okay thank you i was wondering if it would be worth a try. My next option is raised cast iron ARB on top more of a direct set up . The raising is accomplished using two fire briclks
