Fair Price for a used XL BGE (new dome design) and Challenger grill cart

I have been contemplating selling my 2012 Xl bge and the accompanying challenger grill cart given that I don’t use it much these days. Reason being is that I have 3 kids and barely find the time to cook these days. Both are in good shape. What is a fair price for it?

Eggs last for a long time so why not just use it when you can for now and when the kids grow a little more and no longer want to hangout you’ll be back in action? I’ve had mine since 2011 and have gone through periods of low usage but I’ve never considered selling it. You’ll get a minimal amount with no warranty transfer so the question should be do you really need the money and/or space it takes up bad enough to sell it and possibly regret that decision a year or two from now?
Sorry I didn’t answer your exact question, not familiar with the used market of eggs other than the warranty stuff. -
Those are fair points. Just feel bad that I’m getting to the point that I have to do a clean burn to kill any mold or Moss that’s grown in the egg since I go months without using it.Cornholio said:Eggs last for a long time so why not just use it when you can for now and when the kids grow a little more and no longer want to hangout you’ll be back in action? Probably about half of what you paid for it. You could start out higher than that on craigslist, eggs sell fast.

The last one I saw on the local classifieds sold for $700 with nest and cover. It took only 5 days to sell.

I totally get your point, not a fan of things sitting around unused taking up space. Add the maintenance on that you describe and I can see even more why you’re considering. Perhaps the effort to cook something easy every few weeks rather than cook off the funky stuff would help ease the pain.Mud Pig said:

Do you have any accessories like an AR combo with extender from Ceramic Grill Store? This summer I finally got it and it increased my egging a lot, made it easier to “grill” on. My gasser hasn’t been fired up since July, the AR makes grilling weeknight meals a lot easier plus I got the kick ash basket which reduces the time to get the egg to temp IME.

I have gone months not using the eggs much due to the work schedule/hotel time and kids as well. I felt kind of guilty with all the “money” sitting there, but as others indicated, I didn’t need the money just more time. Time has been made, and I’m back in action. Another thing that might help you cook more, is faster lighting. In addition to the KAB, A weedburner from harbor freight will make your egg as convenient as a gas grill. It’s faster to get up to temp than any gas grill, so if you are using your gasser but not the egg for that reason it might help. Hang in there, time will come.Columbus, Ohio--A Gasser filled with Matchlight and an Ugly Drum.

I just sold my XL with a nest and plate setter for $750 and got multiple people emailing after it was sold. Add half of what you paid for the cart to that and it’s a good starting point.

Where are you located? Thanks for all the viewpoints on selling versus not. Also on what a fair price would be. I do have a ton of accessories already as I use to be a prolific bbq person. Now that it sits for months it’s a real shame. I’m located in DC so I’m sure it will sell fast if I decide to pull the trigger.
