Turkey Breast Cooking times?

I have 2 - 7.5lb bone in turkey breasts and was curious about cooking times.  I read somewhere it is 12 minutes per pound at 300 dome indirect?  Is that correct?  so that's 90 minutes - is that right?

I am making these for Eve dinner for a family get together tonight.  we have to be there at 5 and dinner is at 6.  I have done it before and by the time we eat the turkey breasts are always cold so I am trying to have them come out of the egg, get to destination, and have them warm at 6.  Suggestions?

I've never done a turkey by weight, so not sure if that is a good ratio or not. I have done a lot of turkey breasts and cook 265-275 for about 2.5 - 3 hours indirect, but they are never that big, usually 4-5 lbs.  We like the smokiness so I prefer to do them a little slower to get more time with the smoke.  At 7.5 lbs, @ 300 you are probably going to be in the 2- 3 hour range? If it were me, I would plan to have the meat finished at 4:00, so put the meat on at 1:00. If you need another 30 minutes, your good. If it's done early, you can hold in the cooler for several hours no problem.

  • For Thanksgiving I cooked two 7lb bone in breast. Went 350 degrees raised indirect. Took approx 2-1/2 hours.  Pulled them 160 degrees internal. Best we done yet.

when I put in the cooler - do I wrap them in tin foil or something?

Yes. Double wrap it foil, and fill the remaining void with towels.

Fill in the remaining void of the cooler, I should’ve said.

  • I'm curious how they turned out as well.  I usually cook turkey breasts at 250 indirect raised for about 3 hours (165 degrees).  I don't normally find turkey breasts as large as the ones you are cooking so I cook two to three at a time.
