I have the AR version one. Can you cut the top ring to make like the AR2 version? I like the idea of that opening

yes, you can cut off the front section of ring on the xl adjustable rig. the trick to cutting metal is: metal blade, little veggie oil on the cut area and slow blade speed - 1/3 or so full speed if using a jig or reciprocating saw. Can also use a grinding wheel. It will take about two minutes per cut. Keep the weld section on the part you plan to keep.
