New England Eggers- Winter Lump Supply
CornfedMA
Posts: 491
I’ve got 2 XL’s to feed and finding a reliable source of lump (namely Rockwood) during winter, in New England isn't that easy. I wish there were a couple places that I could just walk in the door and buy 2-3 bags, but it’s just not reality. So a few questions for the New England eggers out there or anyone else who wants to give their .02
1. Where’s your go-to spot for lump?
2. Is the Rockwood/Ace relationship no longer a thing? I could got he route of ordering some into my local Ace periodically, but when I searched Ace’s site tonight, Rockwood was nowhere to be found.
3. Is it possible to get a bulk order of Rockwood? I’m talking like a pallet or 1/2 pallet full. If so, any of you New England eggers interested in splitting up a pallet? I’d handle ordering, logistics, etc.

Could always go this route I've only bought rockwood at ace once and there wasn't very much. I can't seem to find it listed by them either, maybe discontinued?Rhode Island

I get that I can search for a local retailer. I’m looking for a consistent, reliable retailer retailer that I can go in and pick up 3-5 bags at a time. Or to find out if can buy a 1/2 pallet worth.

Something is wrong with their website. We dropped off yesterday around noon for some reason. I have a feeling it had something to do with the black Friday sale and them losing a lot of money with all the 50% off coupons. But that's just a theory. Either way, we are still in there. Sku 8400772 -
maybe you should try to contact the dealers that show up on the search function . . . seems to be plenty of themCornfedMA said:I get that I can search for a local retailer. Scott, you didn't care for the Wicked Good? At <$14 a bag, can't beat the price.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@Carolina Q I didn’t love it. Every third bag or so, I’d have a run of cooks where the stuff just smelled bad or wouldn’t clear up when it was burning.
I also didn’t love that it was “made in Maine” but was really a bag full of Brazilian wood. A fair bit of my living is derived from the domestic forestry market, so I figure the least I can do is “walk the walk” and put my money where my mouth is... -
Talk to your local ACE. They will order as much as you'll buy, as often as you need. At least mine will.
As to liking Wicked Good (not that anyone asked and which I do not); I ruined a very nice brisket with it. Cleaned the egg completely. Filled with WG and apple chunks. Lit and let it settle at 240-250 for 90 minutes. Put the brisket on at 7:00 PM. Watched it until 10:30 PM. Stable. Went to bed. Got up at 2:00 AM to check. 425 and the brisket was burned to a crisp. I theorize that a piece of non-carbonized Brazilian bulls!t lit and caused the spike. I'll use Royal Oak way before that sh!t.LBGE, PSWOO, 36" Blackstone, MasterBuilt smoke box- Playing with fire in Three Rivers, MI

have just been buying cowboy from the market basket but butcher boy in north andover and the mckinnons supermarkets usually have a selection, not sure what they are carrying nowadays, worth a look. both have great butcher sections so its not a waste of time to stop at one if they are close enough. the deli counter at butcherboy makes a great sandwich as well. i find that same odd smell with weekend warrior, the old competition blend was one of the best thoughCornfedMA said:I get that I can search for a local retailer.
