Just found out that I’ve been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel! BOOYA!!  I am excited for the bump in pay.  I’m also excited to see my friends and family for the ceremony and reception.  I figured I’d go all out since this is more than likely my last promotion.

Need some ideas on what I should cook.  I’m not above pulled pork, but I’d like to impress, if possible.

Probably 30-40 people, mid October, in Nebraska.  Most likely it’d be a Saturday afternoon.  Overnight cooking is doable.  Reheating is an option if necessary.   I’m working with a large and a MiniMax.

    Thanks for the advice, gang!

    Terrific news, well done!
Frankly, have anything you want - just enjoy the moment!

Also, nothing feels better than new insignia and epaulets - in my experience.
Other girls may try to take me away
But you know, it's by your side I will stay
  • Congrats! also and Thank you for your service.
Here's a sauce recipe we use with pulled pork which always gets rave reviews and you can make it the day before and just warm it up when your ready. Its an Emeril recipe so its a little spicy and sweet but fairly quick to make.
    Ingredients:
    Barbecue Sauce:

    1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

    2 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 tablespoons hot red pepper sauce

    2 teaspoons Essence, recipe follows

    3/4 cup chopped yellow onions

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, or more to taste

    2 tablespoons chopped garlic

    4 cups ketchup

    1/2 cup dark brown sugar

    2 tablespoons cane syrup

    1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

    1/2 cup yellow mustard

    2 teaspoons Essence:

    Essence (Emeril's Creole Seasoning):

    2 tablespoons garlic powder

    1 tablespoon black pepper

    2 1/2 tablespoons paprika

    2 tablespoons salt

    1 tablespoon onion powder

    1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

    1 tablespoon dried leaf oregano

    1 tablespoon dried thyme

    Prep:

    1. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring, for 4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Add the ketchup, brown sugar, cane syrup, vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire, hot sauce, Essence, and red pepper flakes and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened and the flavors marry, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly before serving.
Or just print this , make someone else do it and enjoy your moment :)
