Bought first bag of rockwood

Was in Ace hardware and noticed that they had a couple of bags of rockwood. Although I knew cou could order it and have it delivered to the store, this was the first time I have ever seen it in the store.

Price was $25.99 on the shelf but I remembered getting an email earlier in the month that it was on sale for $21.99 thru 8/31/18 and you also go an additional $2.00 off if you were an ACE member. I also had a $5 off card in my wallet and the cashier also let me use that, so I was able to get a bag for $15 plus tax.  Have never tried it but this seemed to be a very good deal and am looking forward to trying it.

I was excited to find out the new ace hardware near my house carry's it.  I used to have to have a lady from work pick it up and transport it 45 minutes each time I needed it but now its 5 minutes away.

  • You will love it. I need to get rid of my other lump brands so that SWMBO will let me buy some more RW. It probably wouldn't hurt to do a clean burn or two on my egg so I'll use some up that way.

That will be your first bag of many. It's my favorite. You scored big on the price too.

I'm coming to the end of my first bag of Rockwood, and today I used a little RO to do a quick 1.5 hr smoke on some eggplants for SWMBO's Baba Ganoush.  I thought there was a lot of hype around Rockwood... but nope, it's real.  The RO chugged out white billowy, burnt smelling smoke for :30 before it got within 25F of my cooking temp.  It was eye (nostril?) opening, for sure to see the comparison!

Just picked my first bags up, super quick at ACE and they even put it in my car for me since I had a baby in my arms.  Only problem was one bag was punctured and I didn’t see it until I got home.  Glad to see my local ACE supporting BGE though, didn’t see any Joe’s.

    Nice work.

I just bought 30 pounds of KJ lump at the Costco roadshow for $21.99.  Heard good things here on the forum.

As the egg was coming up to temp it smelled like a hot mix asphalt truck was sitting next to my house. Gross.

@Cornholio just remember that small pieces don’t puncture a bag. I’ve started looking for the bags with holes.
  • @Cornholio man that ace has a nice amount off eggsessories!

I posted a similar review of that garbage a little while back. I picked up a bag for half off and still felt like I paid twice what it’s worth.

    That’s minimal by Georgia standards.

I must have missed your review.   Well I was out of RW and was at Costco.  . .

I was working outside after lighting the egg and I kept getting a whiff of something.  I really thought the kids were up to something.  . . Maybe burning tires or melting plastic.  . .

I could not fathom that it was the KJ lump.  The pieces were sequoia like. I should have just went with my 9 year old sons Kingsford stash.

Our local ACE, Carter Bros in Reno, has started to stock RW after one of the employees took a bag home on my recommendation.

Same here in North Florida. My Ace has 3 or 4 times that space for eggcessories.
