Fairly proud of my hillbilly fix for free. If I used my noggin in the first place my almost new plate wouldn't have got cracked in half. I usually listen to my little voice and saving a quick minute resulted in a dog / plate interference lol.
Found my old fire pit cooking grill, submerged the broken pieces & drilled them out for 1/4-20 hardware. Bolted it up with the grill as the brace and then took the torch to burn off any possible machine oil on the hardware.
Was a little concerned about different expansion rate but it four cooks in now and is beautifully stable. Just thought to offer up an easy fix for life's little whoops moments.

Probably not much worse than assembling some flat-packed Ikea desk where they forgot to drill the holes in one panel.Könvekktäöür

shovelhead may be like me, something like that is seen as a challenge.TEXASBGE2018 said:Nice Job saving it but seems like an awful lot of work.
@shovelhead as long as the holes were drilled a little larger than the bolts you should be fine, expansion wise. If you had to push them through, there may be a problem. -
Excellent idea, and with the fender washers you have plenty of expansion/contraction room.
You've also got yourself a built-in spacer for pizza stones and drip pans!

Thanks All,
The dang things are $125+ up here in Canuckaistan. I grew up on a farm and my dad went thru WWII in a very savaged section of Europe so its been beat into me to make things work.... I was all buttoned up and tools put away in under 1/2hr. Good to be on the board!
I have everything cook wise pretty well mastered except for brisket, that is where I will be snooping next...
Cheers -

Looks like zinc hardware.

if you search the forum, the subject of galvanised vs. stainless has been debated many times, many of us are not worried about zinc. here's one such thread ...SeanP said:Looks like zinc hardware.

Great idea, welcome aboard! Where in Canuckistan are you? You got me thinking if an angle iron can be used to fix a platesetter broken at the leg, not that I have the need.canuckland

if the zinc doesn't touch the food or the fire, you are fine.SeanP said:

Kelowna B.C., Canukistan's only semi arid desert. Born and raised here but the uber mild climate is driving prices stupid....Canugghead said:Great idea, welcome aboard! Where in Canuckistan are you? The Egg pricing is also silly here but it is my favourite by far and I will not waver from the platform.
I work in the oil and gas industry so all the hardware that the boys donate to me is S.S. Bins of it...... -
Awesome fix. As a fellow Canadian I understand the sensitivity to prices. There's also the attitude of 'there's got to be some way to fix this' that maybe comes from a more remote setting where replacements aren't just overnight shipping away...

I think @pgprescott just recommends telling the dealer it was a mistake and then getting the warrantied version...
