All - I am refurbishing my egg. Just put on a new hinge (love it) and now looking at a new large dial thermometer. I’ve heard tru tel is the best but read some negative reviews. I’d really like the larger dial style. Can anyone offer any intel on the tru tel vs. the smokeware? I think 3” diameter is what I need....

I'd go with Tel-tru if possible.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

There are supporters of each option. I cannot compare as all I use are tel-tru but from a reliability perspective, they are extremely accurate and hold their accuracy over time. Also easy to cal check and adjust out any off-set.
If a reason for your interest in a large dial is ease of reading, here's a trick that makes even reading the smaller dial thermos easy: Rotate the thermo so your target temp is at 12 o'clock. That way any deviation is easy to assess. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
I’ve got 2 Smokeware in black. They are awesome. I can read them from the kitchen or my garage. I’ve had both over a year and they are still on point.
Con with the black (I found out after ordering) is its the non adjustable one. The large white one you can recalibrate.
But the black looks good and it’s easy to read."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

I bought the 3" black face SmokewareTel Tru 2 years ago. I checked its accuracy last weekend and found out it is reading 80 degrees too low. I am trying to find out if Smokeware is going to warranty it or not. It cannot be calibrated.

I am happy to report that Matt at Smokeware is going to send me a replacement unit for my defective unit. That is a stand-up company that I will continue to do business with!

Neither of my dome thermos work. Am I understanding it’s either the smokeware or tel tru I want? Order from amazon?Large BGE and Medium BGE

Tel-tru on my XL. Keep it in calibration periodically and no issues. Of course my xl was new in April. Also use thermapen smoke for longer cooks since it can show temp at cooking grid. Big dials are greatNear Music City in the Boro
