Just finished first smoke on BGE

I just finished my first smoke on my BGE Large. It was a 5 hour smoke of baby back ribs. I am still learning to not chase temps, which I did the first time. My question is this, for my next smoke/cook, do I need to clean out the old, small chunks of lump charcoal? I still have some larger chunks (and some of the applewood chunks I used for smoking) left. I read somewhere that the smaller pieces can clog up the holes on the bottom, restricting air flow. Thanks for any suggestions.

Knock the fine ash off and add to the old lump. You should be fine unless you get all very small pieces and a bunch of ash and dust. As long as you pay attention to the need for airflow I am confident you will be without issue.

I use a mixture of old lump and new lump on EVERY cook. No problems with air flow.Packerland, Wisconsin

look into the kick ask basket, it makes the choices for you if the lump is too small or not.
