And ask me to recommend a BBQ place. His question was, “If you only have time to visit ONE bbq place, which one would you recommend?”
I don’t have a clue, so what say you?

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

I am in KC this week and I like Jack Stack in the Plaza.Morristown TN, LBGE and Mini-Max.

KC Joes for sure. If you want “nicer” BBQ that is also terrific, I would go Q39. If you want average/safe BBQ Jack Stack is fine.

The original gas station joes or the original Arthur Bryant's. Both are BBQ pilgrimage sites. I'd do jack stack over q39, way more lineage and history.
Lots of little places don't get any credit, but there are plenty of no name places worth visiting depending on where at in KC you are.Kansas City, KansasSecond hand Medium BGE, Second hand Black Kamado Joe Classic, Second hand Weber Kettle, Second hand Weber Smokey Mountain -
In order...
1- KC Joes (formerly Oklahoma Joes)
2- Q39
3- Original Arthur Bryants
4- Jack Stack -
Q39 is superior in food quality in every way. Jack Stack has unique items that are amazing like crown beef ribs and my personal favorite Lamb ribs. All depends on what your looking for in a KC BBQ experience. Want Jazz and Blues try BB's Lawnside or if you want original locations try LC's or KC Joes on 47th and Mission (it's in a 7 eleven) for the Z-Man Sandwich.

I've been to both Q39 and Jack Stack. My go-to in KC is Q39...

When we go out for BBQ it is Q39 or Arthur Bryant's. I like Joe's, but it is a little more of a drive for us. Another place to check out is SLAP'S BBQ (Squeal Like A Pig) in KCK. Also like BB's Lawnside BBQ. Haven't been to Jack's Stack in a long time I was disappointed with the quality and amount of food for the price. May need to give it another try some time.XL, WSM, Coleman Road Trip Gas GrillKansas City, Mo.

Any of these are world class. And as I've always stated - you can't have $R%^& BBQ in KC or you won't last.
Sure, there's Arthur Bryant's and Gate's and LC's and Brubeck's and Smokin' Gun and all the others - but those with the links are bucket list worthy. Just a Chiefs and Royals fan sayin'... a guy who lives in MO and works in KS... fwtw....Kansas City: Too Much City for One State - Missouri side

Smokehouse Barbecue in Gladstone (the original) and also is in Overland Parka and I believe one near the airport. Loved their burnt ends, fries and beans.

Thanks for all the responses. My friend took his family to Joe’s. He was delighted and gave rave reviews.Coleman, Texas
