BGE Charcoal in Australia

Hey All,

Just curious if any Australian eggheads have managed to source their BGE branded charcoal from a cheaper source than authorised distributors e.g. online.

I'm paying $60AUD for a 9kg bag and it's starting to add up!

Also curious to know how much a bag costs in the US?

Cheers!

Ps. I'm in Melbourne

  • Here in Canada (Ottawa, Ontario), I’m paying $13.99 for an 8kg bag for great lump, Basque Nature’s Own Sugar Maple, at Costco.

    Your prices are rough!!

I just bought a 9 kg. (20 lb.) bag of BGE lump and it is $38 CDN.

Weber Genesis CP310; Weber Q1200 (camping); LBGE.

I don't know what brands of lump are available in Australia, but BGE charges a premium price for an average product. If you have access to Royal Oak lump, it's the same lump for a fraction of the cost. I think BGE is about $30/20 lb in the US. Royal Oak is about $10/15 lb.

Also, I just found this place outside Sydney that sells 20kg of Firebrand lump for $32! Free shipping! Don't know anything about the lump (or the company), but at twice the lump, half the price, it might be worth a try.

    Hope this helps.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Thanks guys, sounds like I'm paying 50% more here. I know they need to ship it to the other side of the world so expect some mark up. Maybe not that much.

And no response from fellow Aussies? I wonder how many of us are on these boards... suspect they are all using Primos   ;)

With it costing that much, find a native hardwood to cook with (if there is such) and make your own in a steel burn barrel..

    Have:
XLBGE / Stumps Baby XL / Couple of Stokers (Gen 1 and Gen 3) / Blackstone 36 / Maxey 3x5 water pan hog cooker
    Had:
    LBGE / Lang 60D / Cookshack SM150 / Stumps Stretch / Stumps Baby

    Fat Willies BBQ
