Toronto Eggfest and Smoke Show

Haven't been to an Eggfest in a few years, so looks like this one is it! I like the fact there will be other smokers, as I'm more into the food now, but having said that I would not have gone without the Eggs there

Thanks

I was worried when I got the smoke show email it there was no mention of Big Green Eggs. Emailed a Rob at Dickson and he confirmed it’s two events at one location. Am I the only one half expecting a North Korea/South Korea DMZ line between the Eggs and other cookers?LBGE (2012), MiniMax (2014), and too many Eggcessories to list. - Sudbury, Ontario

@Sammi probably, we've been cooking there almost every year, missed one year due to kitchen renovation. Tempted to cross the DMZ line and cook on the Fontana Forni instead of BGE!

@Canugghead Ya not sure about the split but I'm sure it will work out. I'm planning on being on the other side of the table this year too. Should be fun.Sudbury, Ontario

I too was a little confused as to whether or not this was an eggfest, ou something different. -
Are cooks on the hook for the cost of the protein?

... Besides food, we kindly ask you bring gloves for food handling, foil trays and foil, utensils, paper plates, plastic forks and spoons, toothpicks, paper towels, cooler or ice chest, and meat thermometer....
In previous years Dickson sent out Lane's rubs and the $150 butcher gift certificate in advance so you can purchase the protein on your menu, you'll need to visit the butcher or make pickup arrangement with them.
Eggcessories will be discounted by 20%, giving the $150 Dickson gift card extra mileage.canuckland -
@Canugghead you certainly get around. I don't think you will stray from the BGE but then again your cooking skills are many and well versed. Hope all is well with you and Mary.

I was there but it was no Eggfest thats for sure. I think maybe 10 BGE tents total. I was expecting something more similar to the last three years . I was honestly a little disappointed .Cambridge, Ontario , Canada . XL BGE

It was advertised as Toronto Smoke Show and Toronto Eggfest. Unfortunately Weber+Traeger+KJ+Fontana collectively dwarfed BGE. The dealer was just thinking outside the egg!canuckland

Also, previous eggfests were held at start of bbq season in early June, with no competitions. This was end of September, I think KJ alone outsold eggs.canuckland

The food was great. Was there for 4 hrs and once again missed the demonstrations I wanted to see. No idea when they started.
Did stumble onto one but it was under the music speaker and could not hear anything, except the music.
Stayed a few minutes at another, it was only a sales pitch for cooking classes and after the second put down of ceramic cookers we left that one.
It was nice having other cookers there, it's all good.
Edit: Did buy some nice Peach chunks ... Looking forward to using that.Dave

To put it in perspective, I heard this year's Niagara Eggfest in August had about the same number of cook stations and that was strictly eggs. Dickson set the eggfest bar too high in previous years I guess, with the time of year and format changes I doubt they can match past numbers again. Competitions is good IMO.
Hopefully eggheads in attendance also took the opportunity to socialise with some of the 30+ KJ cook teams and sampled their food, after all KJ works exactly the same as BGE!canuckland -

Best thing I did this year was we each had a big water bottle with us, the lineup to buy water and booze was long.Dave

@EggNorth the beverage situation is 'interesting', was there just one server? I suppose that's the price of running an event at a licensed venue; I recall attending eggfests in PA at the dealer's parking lot where attendees helped themselves to huge coolers of beverages.
We cooked chicken wings and Moroccan beef koftas on the Traeger, brownies and pineapple on the KJ. btw, I was wearing a BGE apron, lol. As predicted, the cheater no-prep pineapple and brownies were way more popular than the proteins, we couldn't cook them fast enough... I guess our proteins sucked or tasters were already in meat coma just couple of hours into the event, probably both

I considered attending as a taster, but, didn't see the value for money...…$40 per person ($80 for wife and I) to walk around and stand in line......nope.
