David Ogden Stiers. Not exactly a household name. He was a good character actor. On the TV show M*A*S*H*, He was Major Charles Winchester.

In Doc Hollywood, he was the mayor. In this photo, he was dressed as a squash for the Squash Festival.

For you younger folks, he was the voice of Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast.

Always good in anything I've seen him do. R.I.P.

I'm about 1/2 way through watching M*A*S*H now (DVD). He is great on the show. Sad news.

I much preferred him to the Frank character. Much more depth of personality, we really enjoyed watching him in Mash. RIP indeed.

He was a local boy who spent much of his childhood in and around Peoria. My best friend who also is now deceased recalled him as a playmate.

Some of the most memorable musical score for a sitcom opening imho. His character was well played.
