Squash on the egg

I'm trolling for advice/recommendations for cooking squash on the egg. The only way I've prepared squash before was to boil it and mash it (like mashed potatoes). Seeing how much better sweet potatoes are on the Egg, I figured I'd try some squash. Acorn and/or butternut.[p]I'm thinking halve them, remove the seeds and stuff, wrap 'em in foil (together? apart?) and put them on the Egg at about 350 - 400 (indirect) for an hour.[p]Sound right to you?

can do meat side down first half of the cook, skin down the rest[p]we do acorn squash with butter, brown sugar, etc. at the end, in the bowl where the seeds were.[p]

Flashback Bob,[p]Did some just last night the way you describe without using any foil. Put a pat of butter and some brown sugar in the carverd out area. Cooked indirect with some meatloaf at 375 for about an hour. Very tasty.

acorns get halved, cleaned, butter sugar,maplesyrup, and a coating of something hot, baste as they cook at 400. butternut and spagetti get thrown in whole, cooked til soft and brown on the outside. cooking them whole keeps all the flavor in that boiling would remove. cut and clean after cooking, and then mash the way you normally would

Flashback Bob,[p]I did a stuffed pie pumpkin a few weeks ago. I had done them in the oven before, but couldn't find the recipe. So I cooked it until the stuffing was done, 165 degrees. That was not enough. As I later learned, like potatoes, winter squash need to get a little hotter than 200. Also, there may be syrupy drips, so have a bit of foil underneath.[p]gdenby
