HurricaneEddie1
Posts: 92
Finally cooked some tuna steaks on the mini max via cast iron. Seasoned with Lane's Pitmaster Select #2, which has a Hawaiian flavor profile. Addees some canola oil to the pan and seares for 90 sec/side.

Cooking on a LBGE and MM down in Miami, FL.

Excellent!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Looks delicious. Do you have a pan for which you can close the dome? I use this one and it fits absolutely perfectly - https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.1000837645.html?eid=PS_GOOGLE_HD+%7C+PLAs_Shopping+%7C+All+Products+-+FR_All+Products+-+FR_aud-389819198065:pla-296303633664&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImKKD8Ybp2AIVx7rACh2kXwsXEAkYBCABEgJkYPD_BwE

will this fit in a LBGE? -
Iwas going to cook on the Large but didn't want to burn all that lump for such a quick cook. I was able to get the mini max to 500 with thr handle sticking out but it took longer. I will be getting a handless one. Thanks for the recommendation.GrateEggspectations said:Looks delicious. Do you have a pan for which you can close the dome? Looks great. You don’t really need to worry about dome temp, in fact you don’t need to close the dome at all, you just need a raging fire to get the pan really hot and for it to be able to recover quickly when you add the tuna.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

I just ate but got hungry again after seeing that awesome cook

Not sure I would put forth the effort for a 4 minute cook on the egg unless I was cooking other stuff before or after. That being said, sure looks awesome! Tuna is one of my favorites. So easy and so good!!!
Besides the the fun of using the egg and not stinking up the house, is there some other benefit to cast iron tuna on the egg versus a range that I am missing?Upstate SC

My question about closing the lid was not in relation to this cook. Was just wanting to help out with a recommendation of a decent-sized pan that fits the MM, as there aren’t many around.Legume said:Looks great. All good boss. I wasn’t responding to you, OP said he had trouble getting the MM to 500, etc.GrateEggspectations said:

Great cook and result right there. As above, I would inhale that and definitely be smiling. Congrats.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Personally, I don’t consider it much effort to fire up the egg. Every time I’ve done high heat on cast iron inside, it’s a lot more clean up effort in the house and complaints about the smell than I care to deal with.etherdome said:Not sure I would put forth the effort for a 4 minute cook on the egg unless I was cooking other stuff before or after. You’re right , It’s not a lot of effort. But when compared to turning a handle on a stove and being ready to cook in 3 minutes it’s a different story. Each to their own. Egging is fun, you get to be outside, less smell in the house etc. totally understand. I’m just not at a point in my life where I have time to turn an 8 minute process into a 30 or 40 minute process with no benefit to the outcome.Upstate SC

Fish is the one thing I like do do outside, especially blackening.the smoke from the seasoning makes me cough and go outside anyway.jeponline said:
