Saw various iterations of these while in Costa Rica. Very popular with families spending the day at the beach, with locals placing Dutch ovens directly onto the rims (as in the first pic below). Pretty ingenious design in their simplicity. I'm guessing there is no way to control heat except via the size of the fire(?).
