Great Christmas Present

My beautiful wife of 25 years just bought me a mini max for Christmas.  Will add this to my large and expand the egging possibilities. Can't wait to break in the mini max.

Also made our hotel reservations to the North Georgia egg fest.

Why do I keep reading threads about wife's purchasing m/m's for their husbands Christmas gifts? I got bed sheets..
    OP....congrats on the present.

I got half a Romba in a joint gift. Really didn’t need much so all good. Good news I already have a mm. Had to purchase it myself a couple years back. Your point is well made though.

I cooked some NY Strips on the Mini-Max tonight.   I can't get over how close the grill grate is to the lump, but they turned out great.   Much closer than my large.

I have heard others talk about using a woo on their mini max's.   Is that just to allow for longer cooks by adding more lump to the fire box or is it to raise the cooking surface further away from the lump?  Also, for those who have the woo, do you also have the ceramic stone?    If so, what type of cooks do you use it on?

My wife of 37 years insisted we drive to Atlanta last summer to buy a slightly used minimax to compliment the medium BGE.
next to marrying her, it may be the best decision I have ever made.
now... U gotta get a kick ash basket for it...order it tomorrow!

Raise the cooking surface - yes. Woo and ceramic stone - yes. Just did a raised indirect Spatchcock chicken yesterday. Took a photo of the setup but photo wasn't worth sharing.

Edit:Found this from a previous cook. You will need a smaller grid for raising the food because the dome will hit if you want to go higher than this.

For yesterday's cook I used the platesetter legs up, the grill you see on the platesetter, the woo upside down with the large ring on the normal grate, and the smaller grate on the small ring of the woo. I had to slide the rig toward the rear so the dome wouldn't hit the grate. It was a small chicken so the dome didn't touch the chicken.
