Man, I thought maybe you were reading fishes minds!
yeah, wild caught is the way to go. -
OK. That settled, it doesn’t leave many choices. Most is farm raised. What and where can I find wild caught anything? And I suppose I’ll have to pay $20/pound for it right?I like my butt rubbed and my pork pulled.

Where do you live? Whole paycheck has good options but more costly. Here in Atlanta we have some great fish markets, Buford Farmers Market being the best for cost and selection.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

I was just fishing in western New York and let two steelhead go.... I have heard they are mediocre at best. Always let them go but I live in Miami and we are kind of spoiled on the fish front... would love to know if people eat them out of the rivers south of Buffalo?

Farm raised fish of any kind are a no go in this household. That is unless they are salmon from an Ian Anderson style farm. Yep, Jethro Tull. He pioneered raising salmon in giant cages a few miles out to sea. That way the excrement flows right out of the habitat. Otherwise you're eating fish that a large portion of their diet is their own poop.

I'm assuming that everyone here must then also only eat beef/pork/chicken that was raised in the wild and not in CAFO's.

Unfortunately that’s not the case (here) @HeavyG. If it was readily available and tasty I would strongly consider it.Snellville, GA

To me, anything labeled 'farm-raised' means sewer quality..

Steelhead can be most excellent. At least the ones that grew in the Great Lakes.
Always rare, and possibly now full of chemicals.
Don't know about ones that lived in the ocean.
They're just giant rainbow trout. Not quite as flavorful as salmon, but nearly as fat.
But I do have to think something raised and shipped thousands of miles wouldn't be very good quality.

i like fish but rainbow/steelhead for me is the exception. only time ive had it that it was enjoyable was done raw pickled by a cambodian neighbor girl and it was tiny rainbows chunked bone-in with spices i never heard of before, wish i got that recipe. as for wild, the normal supermarket frozen stuff usually has wild caught usa pacific salmon, its usually processed in china but its usually descent without the 20 dollar pound pricetag. i dont buy trout and salmon anymore, i have an unlimited supply swimming around in maine to choose fromfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I always consult the Monterey Bay Aquarium (http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/conservation-and-science/our-programs/seafood-watch). They also have an app, at least for iPhones. Just because it’s wild doesn’t mean it’s good.
